THE “ONE SHOT” SYSTEM
FOR MOULD CONSTRUCTION
The demand for moulds in very short time schedules is a common
problem, affecting both prototype and production versions. Lavesan
has developed a complete system for mould production that satisfies
all the most common requirements:
• The possibility of making even large production moulds to a 24
hour deadline
• Excellent dimensional stability
• Optimum mechanical strength
• Ready for use components (no powder to disperse, or other
additives)
• Surfaces that perfectly reproduce the model, without marking or
other surface defects
HP LAVECOAT FOR MOULD
A pinnacle of market quality, gelcoat for HP moulds is distinguished by:
• exceptional gloss and retention of the same
• extremely high resistance, both chemical and mechanical
Its high mechanical strength also makes it suitable for the
construction of moulds that need to stand up to heavy work loads
in terms of number of mouldings per day and/or type of technology
(injection, pressing, etc.).
LAVESKIN IS / R.902 VYNIL ESTER RESIN
- THE FIRST LAYER It is strongly recommended to form the first layer of the mould with
LAVESKIN IS, an isophtalic based barrier coat that ensures a
reliable support for the gelcoat, as well as preventing even the
smallest marking of the glass fibre or the presence of cavities
under the gelcoat.
Alternatively, or in combination, a first layer can be realized (even
a single mat of 225 g/m2) using vinyl ester resin R.902.
ONE SHOT RESIN
- THE MOULD BODY The innovative and exclusive characteristics of “ONE SHOT” mould
resin makes it possible to construct an entire mould body up to a
thickness of 15 mm, in a single wet-on-wet application without the
risk of shrinkage of the laminate or excessive overheating.
• Faithfulness to the model
• Speed of construction
• Mould quality
APPLICATION
The rheology of “ONE SHOT” resin and its high moistening
potential ensures easy and safe use both for hand lay-up and
spray-up. With ONE SHOT resin it is possible to achieve
glass-resin impregnation ratios of 1:3 in weight, certainly the top
performernon-shrink moulds resins. The extremely easy
workability of Oneresin using spray-up technology offers further
drastic cuts inrealization times, resulting in significant savings.
LP BONDER
- FOR SANDWICH CONSTRUCTIONS Bonder LP guarantees no shrinkage just like the ONE SHOT
resin and ensures excellent core material adhesion in
sandwich mould making to eliminate the risk of witness marks
on the gelcoat surface.
GELCOATS
Our gelcoats are available:
• to be applied by brush, roller or spray gun
• in any colour (Lavesan colour samples, RAL,
customer’s sample, etc.)
• top-coat version (tack-free)
• with internal release agent
OR
For general and easy-to-use applications; it is recommended for
all the parts that do not require specific chemical resistance and
for products for external exposure but that are not immersed in
water for a long time.
IN
It represents the ideal layer onto which it is possible to paint; it
also supplies finished surfaces having a good quality level.
• with customised features
HP FOR MOULD
With this vinyl ester based gelcoat we have developed the
special characteristics of mould gelcoats to their highest levels.
The HP gelcoat stands out for its:
- exceptional, long-lasting gloss
- chemical and mechanical resistance.
Its high mechanical resistance also makes it suitable for the
construction of moulds that need to stand up to heavy work
loads in terms of number of mouldings per day and/or type of
technology (injection, pressing, etc.).
NI
This isopthalic-NPG based gelcoat is the most recent result of our
research efforts and represents the state-of-the-art for the sectors of
nautical and sanitary equipment and for the products that have to be
highly resistant to water, light and bad weather conditions.
Its strengths are resistance to yellowing and to opacizing together
with very low water absorption.
It is suitable to the manufacturing of food-grade products.
FN
Flame-retardant, it has good brightness, yellowing resistance and
water absorption features. Its use is recommended when the
composite material’s fire-resistance cannot be lowered. It meets
the conditions required for the manufacture of ships inner parts.
Halogen-free.
IO
Isophtalic based gelcoat for surface finishing featuring a high
degree of resistance to water solutions and to many organic
products; it is also characterised by high-level mechanic properties.
Gelcoats are also available specially designed for particular
applications and capable of satisfying all the demands of the
composite materials world:
LA, IL AND IE - for the production of flat laminates
IT - intumescent
MD - for quick manufacturing cycles
CS - primer for helmets
AS - anti-static
FIRE-RESISTANT
SYSTEM
Lavesan has devoted large resources to the development of
resins capable of offering both an effective fire barrier and, thanks
to resin completely halogen-free, a drastic reduction in the
emissions of toxic smoke, the main case of death during fires.
• Fire Resistance
• Very low toxiticy of smoke
• Ease of use
In combination with our resins we provide a range of gelcoats, with
and without halogen, which represents a surprisingly good
combination between fire resistance, water resistance, and
