A guide for Team Captains

Relay For Life Online
A guide for Team Captains
Your role as Team Captain
1
Get started and grow your team
Personalise your team’s Relay For Life webpage.
Customise your page by uploading photos,
sharing your team’s story and communicating
with your supporters and team members. The
Particpant Centre is a communication hub to
help you recruit and fundraise with pre-written
messages and Relay For Life branded materials.
2
Recruiting members for your team
First stop, your family and friends. After hearing
why you’ve signed up to Relay they’ll be sure to
jump onboard and be part of your Relay team.
Get your workmates involved too! Share your
team page on social media with a link to your
team story and why you’re getting involved in
Relay For Life!

How to fundraise with your team
First, set a fundraising goal for your team. Be
as ambitious as you want! It’s easier to think big
when you break up your fundraising goal into
smaller events. The earlier you start fundraising,
the more you’ll raise to reach your goal! There
are a bunch of great ideas in our Tools section of
the Relay For Life website to inspire you!
If you have any questions regarding Relay online please contact the Relay Coordinator in your State / Territory.
Ask Survivors and Carers to join you!
Do you know someone who is a cancer Survivor? Why not
ask them to be on your team or join in the opening lap? And
rally them to bring their Carers along! Recognising Survivors
and Carers is a very important part of Relay For Life and all
are welcome!
Be a leader in your community by inspiring and motivating your
team members to fundraise and organise community events.

Bring the fun and get creative
There are tons of great team activities you can
do on the day of your Relay; plan a team theme,
decorate your campsite and wear costumes. It all
adds colour and excitement to the event, to keep
your team moving on and off the track! Your local
Committee will provide you with information on
what to bring to the event so you’re prepared!
Final touches to your fundraising
The biggest part of fundraising is thanking your
sponsors for their donations and support. No
matter how big or small, every little bit helps you
reach your team goal. Collect your team’s fundraising
and bank it online in your Participant Centre.
watch your online total climb and see how easy it
is to reach your goal!
