Your monthly update from STG…
May 2016
Den Building Day
Not a scene from ‘Lord of the Flies’. The children at STG helped
raise money for Save the Children on the last day of half term.
The activity helped raise their awareness to the plight of
homeless children across the world. Many thanks go to parents
and staff for supplying materials and making donations for this
worthy cause. (http://denday.savethechildren.org.uk)
Master Chef
Mr Arthur takes to the kitchen with year 6 to demonstrate his culinary skills. The class enjoyed a
Caribbean food tasting afternoon, followed by chocolate making. This builds on work the pupils
have just completed in their geography topic.
Musical Talents and Assembly Presentations
Celebrating the musical talents and achievements of our children is an important part of life
at STG. There are always a great variety of Sporting, Academic, Drama and Musical awards
and it is a real testament to the skills and interests of the students and helps make this
school such a rich and vibrant community.
Jameson's Sunday team, Moordown Athletic were promoted into
the top league of the Bournemouth Youth Football league last
week after a very successful season . Jameson finished top
scorer with 15 league goals from 16 games .
His Saturday team “Rome” won the Littledown juniors cup
competition. Many congratulations to him and the teams.
Art Competition Winners
and Runners up
Head teacher Awards
Tennis Tournament success.
Well done to all those who represented the school this half term.
Year 6 Little Canada Residential
The exciting start of
the Summer term for
Year 6. Thanks to
Mrs Williams and Mr
Arthur for looking
after the group.
Leadership Day
Six children from year 5 were randomly selected to attend a leadership day at the Ballard school
on Wednesday 11th May. Mr Brazier escorted the children and along with small groups from other
schools they undertook activities on team building and leadership skills.
STG Newspaper
Ms Laishley and Year 4 launch the school Newspaper. This first publication was designed and
written by members of Year 4. The journalist style of writing helps develop their literacy
skills. Hopefully this is the first of a half termly edition. Well done to everyone.
Bournemouth Natural Science Society and Museum
Year 3 explored the Natural Science Museum on Tuesday. The children spent time reinforcing
their understanding of Rocks and Fossils, work started in the classroom with Mrs Tobin. Museum
curators presented exhibits and spoke to children about the collections. It was a fascinating tour
and Mr Lickley was particularly impressed by the fact that Alfred Wallace had actually lived in the
house and was a member of the society.
