Hillington Highlights October 2015

Hillington Highlights
October 2015
Dear Parent/Carers
Welcome back after a busy Term One. We hope you all had a relaxing
October holiday and had an opportunity to rest and have some fun too!
Class Assemblies
We look forward to welcoming parent/carers of children in P5a on Friday
30th October at 9.20a.m to their class assembly. We hope that you are able
to come along and let them share with you what they have learned. If you
are able to make it, your support will be very much appreciated. Tea and
coffee will be served and you can have the opportunity to have a chat with
other parents too!
Hallowe’en Disco
Our Parent Council have organised a Hallowe’en Disco for all the
children this Thursday 29th October. This will be held in the Gym Hall in
Hillington Primary School.
P1 - P4 – 6.15p.m – 7.15p.m
P5 - P7 – 7.30p.m – 8.30p.m
The cost of the ticket is £2.00 and all children will be given a bar of
chocolate and juice. Parent helpers are needed for this event: if you can help
please contact Ann Smith who is Chairperson of the Parent Council or the
school office 0141-882-2144.
Teddy Bears Picnic
We will be hosting a ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ for all new Primary One children
starting in August 2016 on Wednesday 4th November between 2.00p.m.2.45p.m. The intention is to support the children in their transition from
Nursery to Primary and to make new friends too!
Primary One Registration Week
We will be holding an enrolment week beginning 9th - 13th November for new
Primary One pupils starting in August 2016. Please call the school to make
an appointment. We look forward to meeting with you and your child. Please
also bring along your child’s birth certificate and proof of address
Stars of the Week
On Thursday each week we hold achievement assemblies and award
children in each class a ‘Star of the Week’ certificate’ sticker for making
progress and improvements in all aspects of their learning. We also put
their name up on the ‘Achievement Wall’ for everyone to see. If for any
reason you do not wish your child’s name to appear in print, which will also
appear on our school website, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Well done to all the children who have been awarded a certificate this term.
Keep up the good work!

Dental Checks for P1 and P7
P1 and P7 will be given the opportunity to receive a dental inspection for
their children on Tuesday 17th November. If you do not wish your child to
have their teeth inspected, please write a letter to the school marked for the
dental team. After the dental visit a letter will be issued to the parent/carers
of each child.
Flu Immunisation
On Monday 9th November the whole school will be participating in the
Programme. You will be sent an invitation, consent letter and leaflet to
make an informed decision on whether you want your child/ren to be
immunised. Please keep checking the schoolbags for information, thank you.
Attendance
Attendance at school is not only vital to your child’s success but is Scottish
law. We continue to monitor absence closely and urge you to work with us
to ensure that your child/ren reach their full potential. It is important that
you use the Pupil Absence Reporting Line 0141-287-0039 and inform the
school in writing to explain any absence or your child will be marked as
having an UNAUTHORISED ABSENCE. I would also like to make it clear
that permission to go on holiday during term time cannot be
given/authorised and if parents/carers choose to take children out of school
during term time, children will miss important learning and be marked
absent. Last years Attendance statistics were 94.9 %. We want to continue
to improve on this further and require your support.
School Uniform/Lost Property
The children look very smart in their uniforms; thank you so much, you
should be very proud. Research shows that children perform better when
dressed in school uniform and feel a sense of belonging. Please ensure that
all uniform items are labeled/named. We currently have a large amount of
lost property, please come in and claim it as I am concerned that parents
may be spending more than they should.
Mrs Greene
Congratulations to our clerical assistant Mrs Greene who became a
grandmother. (yes, we know she looks too young!) Grace, her beautiful
grandaughter was born on 26th September and weighed 6lb 5oz We wish
all the family much happiness and joy.
