What is the test like? Taking the Test Make sure you review the test instructions thoroughly. These are presented in the system right before you start the test. Print and save a copy of the instructions for reference. Set aside enough time to take the test in an environment where you will not be interrupted. Also, have a printed copy of the Framework for Teaching rubric in front of you when you are taking the test. The Proficiency Assessment is divided into two stages—Stage 1 and Stage 2. Pass or No Pass status will be assigned on Stage 1, and Pass or No Pass status on the entire assessment will be assigned at the end of Stage 2. You will have up to two attempts to pass each stage. If you pass Stage 1, you will move on to Stage 2. You cannot advance to Stage 2 until a passing score is achieved on Stage 1. If you receive a passing score on the assessment at the end of Stage 2, that means you have completed the test and are considered proficient. Two No Pass attempts at any stage indicate that you are not proficient and you will need to retest starting again at Stage 1. You will need to wait 90 days (or a predetermined wait period driven by legislative deadlines in your district) after your last No Pass attempt before you are eligible to retest. During your wait time, you should review the training modules and score the Practice Videos again. Pay close attention to the content related to the aspects of the test that seem to be the most difficult for you. Check the home page for your Pass/No Pass status on each attempt and the dates when you can take the test again. Each stage of the test takes approximately 3.5 hours, but you have up to 6 hours to complete each stage. Structure of the Test Stage 1 General multiple-choice (MC) items. Video scoring testlets, which are comprised of videos, scored on the eight FfT scales, with associated selectedresponse items. Exact agreement with master scores earns full scores, while adjacent agreement earns partial credit on the video scoring items. Discrepant scores earn no points. On the selected-response items, incorrect responses receive a negative score. Stage 2 Stage 2 includes three testlets similar to those in Stage 1. The selected-response items target content knowledge about specific FfT dimensions as applied in scoring the videos. Scoring the Test The passing score is based on overall performance on the multiple-choice and video scoring sections. In the video scoring section, a user can gain full and partial credit. You get maximum credit when your score is a direct match with the master score and partial credit if your score is adjacent to the master score (e.g., you score a 3, but the master score was a 2). If your score is discrepant, meaning that it is off by more than one score point, you will receive no credit. There are some multiple-response items for which you will receive negative points for an incorrect answer. Assessment results are cumulative. In order to pass the test, you need to have a total passing score that is derived from your performance on Stage 1 and Stage 2. o The passing score for Stage 1 is 65 points out of 94 total points. o This score is the minimum score required at this stage in order to pass the entire test. o The pass criterion for the entire test is 143 points out of 205 total points across the two stages of the test. o If you score higher on Stage 1, then you have a greater chance of passing the entire test. Seeing Your Test Results Immediately after you complete each stage of the test, you will find out if you passed that stage. For test security purposes, you will not receive detailed information about your performance on individual items; nor will you see correct answers for specific assessment items. You will receive a sub-skills report that provides information about your performance with respect to the five subskills. You may use the sub-skills report to guide further and more focused training. Detailed feedback on your performance is only available as you prepare for the test within the training and practice portions of the system. Technical Information It is highly recommended that you wear a headset when you watch the videos to reduce any outside distractions/noises and enhance the audio from the video itself.
