We’ve got the
ingredients for
energy efficiency
Ask any chef and they’ll agree the right
ingredients can make the most of a meal and
contribute to a first-rate dining experience.
At Bauhaus Restaurant in Gastown, natural
gas is not only an essential ingredient for
their culinary creations, but it’s also good for
their bottom line.

From ovens, fryers, griddles and more,
high-efficiency natural gas appliances and
equipment can help you save energy and
money in your commercial kitchen.
Upgrade and save even more
Whether you’re upgrading your kitchen
or building new, FortisBC’s Efficiency `a

Simple energy-saving
tips for summer
Say yes to
renewable
natural gas
Renewable natural gas
is a carbon neutral* and
sustainable energy source
made right here in B.C.
• Maintain and repair – have
your heating and cooling system
professionally serviced, ensuring that
ducts are sealed, filters are changed,
and heat transfer coils are clean.
• Fan away – use ceiling fans to
efficiently regulate air temperature.
• Adjust blinds – close or tilt window
blinds upward to keep indoor spaces
cooler.
• Be water-wise – install water-efficient
faucet aerators and shower heads in
washrooms to save water and energy.
In a commercial kitchen, install prerinse spray valves for rinsing dishes.
Plus, you’ll receive a credit
on the BC carbon tax and earn
additional market exposure on our
website, showing your customers
how much you’re committed to
sustainability.

Sign up your business for a
five, 10, 25 or 50 per cent
blend of renewable and
conventional natural
gas. Or you can choose
100 per cent renewable
natural gas. Whatever
blend you choose, you’ll
help reduce greenhouse
gas emissions and support
local B.C. suppliers so they
can produce even more
renewable energy for our
province.
*FortisBC’s renewable natural gas has been designated
as carbon neutral in B.C. by Offsetters. Renewable
natural gas is not available to Revelstoke or
Fort Nelson customers.
Giving back to B.C. communities
FortisBC employees are always ready to roll up their sleeves to help
local communities.
In March, employees and their families
joined Evergreen, a national not-for-profit
dedicated to restoring natural environments
within city landscapes. Together, they
revitalized Vancouver’s Renfrew Ravine,
planting more than 100 shrubs and testing
water quality. That same month, employees
removed invasive vegetation species from
Saanich’s Colquitz River Trail.
We also participated in the recent United
Way Day of Caring® at The Clubhouse Farm
in Kelowna, a space that helps kids get
back to nature with outdoor activities. By
cleaning up and landscaping the grounds, the
farm is ready for a new season of visitors.
This spring, the Greater Vancouver Board
of Trade honoured FortisBC with the
2016 Rix Award for Engaged Corporate
Citizenship – recognizing our volunteerism
and commitment to the wellbeing of
communities where we live and work.

Call or click before you dig
Safety is a top priority for both BC One Call and
FortisBC. We’ll continue to work together to ensure both
homeowners and industry professionals are aware of safe
digging practices.
Gary Metz, executive director, BC One Call
With construction and landscaping season in
full swing, be sure to contact BC One Call
before you or your contractor start digging.
You’ll need to know where underground
utilities are located to be safe and avoid
costly surprises.
Once you call, BC One Call will notify the
utility companies in your area, including
FortisBC. Then we’ll provide you with the
natural gas line information you need before
you dig. The call and information is free.
Here are three easy steps to remember:
1. Call: BC One Call at 1-800-474-6886 or
click bconecall.ca.
2. Review: within two days you’ll receive
your natural gas line location. Review it
before you dig.
3. Clarify: if you need help or have any
questions, call us at 1-888-822-6555.
