Understanding the Teacher Performance Wedge of TEI Throughout the year, teachers have had a series of spot observations, an extended observation, and now a summative performance evaluation. How was the summative performance evaluation score calculated? What exactly does the score mean? How do those scores translate into your teacher performance wedge for your TEI evaluation score? How is my summative performance evaluation score calculated? The summative performance evaluation is a reflection of your score on all 19 indicators of the performance rubric. Information observed during spot observations, extended observation(s) and any informal observations informs your summative performance evaluation score. Observation Type Duration Frequency Focus 5 key indicators from Domain 2 & 3 Spot Typically 10-15 minutes At least 10 annually, option to conduct 4 spots one semester and 6 spots the other semester (DTR-eligible teachers needed a minimum of 6 spots*) Extended Typically 45 minutes Minimum of One All 9 indicators from Domains 2 & 3 Informal Any length Any amount Any } Informs summative performance evaluation Each of the 19 indicators has a maximum score of three points (unsatisfactory = 0, progressing = 1, proficient = 2, and exemplary = 3). The indicators that can be observed during spot and extended observations carry heavier weights. All teachers are awarded one base point, bringing the total possible score on the summative performance evaluation to 100 points. *More information is found on page 30 in the TEI Teacher Guidebook What does my summative performance evaluation score mean? A performance label (e.g., progressing, proficient, etc.) is not attached to your summative performance evaluation score. As a point of reference: • • • A teacher who scored ‘progressing’ on each indicator has a summative score of 34 points A teacher who scored ‘proficient’ on each indicator has a summative score of 67 points A teacher who scored ‘exemplary’ on each indicator has a summative score of 100 points How do these scores translate into my teacher performance wedge for my overall TEI evaluation score? For teachers in Category A, the teacher performance wedge is 50% of the overall TEI evaluation score. The summative performance evaluation score is multiplied by 50% to determine the points received for this wedge. For example, if a teacher received a 66 on the summative performance evaluation, the TEI performance score would equal 33 points (66 * 0.5 = 33).
