United Methodist Men—Coppell
Story of the Cravens Tournament
Tom Cravens was a member of First United Methodist
Church and a champion of our church's Students
Ministries. Tom, along with his wife Joyce, made sure
that our Students Ministries reached out to all the youth
of Coppell at every level. Tom, along with other
members of the men's group, came up with the idea of
a golf tournament as a way to establish a college
scholarship fund and to raise money for Student
Ministries mission trips, which was open to all junior
and high school kids in Coppell. A year or so after the
first tournament, Tom became ill from cancer and died
a few months later. To honor Tom's commitment to the
youth of Coppell, the leadership of the United Methodist
Men decided to name the tournament, "The Cravens
Challenge Golf Tournament," open to any and all who
wanted a fun way to support the youth of our church
and community.
The monies generated by the tournament are used to
assist youth, mission, and community outreach.

UMM in Mission
Students in Mission

Student Ministries mission teams worked in
Fairfield, TX to help low income residents with
home repair projects and in Rowlett, TX to repair
homes damaged by tornados.
During the summer of 2017, Student Ministries
mission teams will be back at work replacing toilets
and sinks, building wheel chair ramps, and
repairing roofs, porches, and floors.



In November 2016, UMM sent a mission team to
Monroe, LA to help rebuild flooded homes.
In January 2017, UMM sent a mission team to
Leesville, LA to help rebuild flooded homes.
In April 2017, members of UMM will join
other Methodist churches during Amigos Days to
help repair homes in the inner city of Dallas.
Community Outreach


During 2016, UMM donated money and resources to
Christian Community Action and FUMC’s Coppell
Cares to help the "least of these" in Coppell,
Lewisville, Carrollton, and Irving.
For Christmas 2016, the UMM raised enough money
to donate 100 bikes/helmets to the Metrocrest
Service Center. These bikes were given to children
in the Carrollton, Coppell, and Lewisville areas.
Thanks to your generous and ongoing support, The United Methodist Men can continue our 23 years of service to
children and families all across Coppell, the Metrocrest, and the region! Join us at Bear Creek Golf Club on Sunday
May 7, 2017 (see registration details on the back) as a player or sponsor.
