Tour of Hertfordshire Series Round One

Tour of Hertfordshire Series Round One : “CycleFest Bricket Wood”
Background
Following the success of Redbourn’s “Fête du Velo” in 2013 & 2014, Hertfordshire County Council as part of their ‘Year
of Cycling’ are supporting a new and exciting “Tour of Hertfordshire Series” across 4 Sundays in June & July for 2015.
About
The event looks to bring the whole family together to enjoy a fun, relaxed ‘village style’ cycling festival with stalls,
attractions & activities for everyone, including Go-Ride youth activities, tea, cake, food and refreshments throughout
the day!
With kind permission and co-operation of BRE (The Building Research Establishment) for the venue
“CycleFest Bricket Wood” is a new cycling festival for 2015 organised by Watford Cycle Hub, with support from BRE,
Watford Velo, Gregarios Superclub Ciclista, and Spokes Group.
The event includes more than 6 hours of closed road criterium racing starting at midday with an open riding sessions
and Under 8’s Scootathon.
Last years “Fête du Velo” Redbourn attracted approximately 2,000 people in a relaxed family atmosphere. With a very
short lead time we expect fewer numbers at this first round though numbers are likely to build at subsequent rounds in
Letchworth (14th June), Redbourn (5th July) and Welwyn Garden City (26th July).
Each round will have a Cycling Village of up to 40 stalls providing food, refreshments and in addition to those stalls
specifically orientated the cyclists, a number of our partners will be actively encouraging & supporting those that would
like to cycle.
A Folding Bike Challenge will aim to encourage local business & community groups to participate and take stall to
promote themselves, their services or produce.
We believe that this is a fantastic addition to the local calander of events and have:
the support of British Cycling website will manage all the race entries and help publicise the event via a specific
event entry
British Cycling have also committed to promote the event on their GoSkyRide.com website.
With more than a 1000 employees based from their Bricket wood site, BRE have embraced the opportunity and are
working with us to make this a memorable start to the Tour of Hertfordshire Series
All local cycle clubs & groups will be engaged and despite the late stage we hope will also actively support the
event
Racing starts at 12:50pm and ends at 8pm. We have an exciting schedule of races across all ages and categories
including youth, Go Race novice, vets and womens races.
Folding Bike Club & Corporate Challenge – Local businesses and community groups will be encouraged to join in this
event. Teams of 4 can take part in the folding bike challenge with a Le Mans style start and bike assembly. No one
needs their own as a fleet of folding bikes from one of our partners is on hand – ensuring a level playing field for all!
Contact the organiser to enter << need to put in link >>.
Elimination Races - The top 10 placed riders from the Womens Only, Seniors (cat 2,3 mens) & Masters (vets) handicap
& are automatically entered into the Final 15 lap elimination race. The last two in each lap will be eliminated leaving an
exciting final lap of just four riders!!
Two race entries for the price of one!
Cycling Village - Bring the family and enjoy a fun, relaxed village green cycling festival with attractions & activities for
everyone, including Go-Ride youth activities, tea, cake, food and refreshments throughout the day!

~ and I’m sure there are other jobs yet to be defined!
Any amount of time offered will be appreciated, even if it’s just a couple of hours any help will be
appreciated.
Anyone offering their time to volunteer should ideally contact the team via the contact that will soon be
available son the Watford Cycle Hub website or by:
