The Regional Council commissioned the Regional
Executive Board to prepare an Action Plan for Health
Equity in Västra Götaland in the budget of 2011.
The Public Health Committee was assigned to
coordinate the commission.

Vision – the Action Plan for Health Equity
The Action Plan will contain proposals of concrete
initiatives/measures – locally, regionally and nationally –
which are most likely to reduce health inequity in Västra
Götaland.
Each stakeholder will then decide which of the proposed
initiatives/measures that they will implement as well as
when and how.

A regional policy
The Regional Council adopted “Together towards Social
Sustainability – actions on health equity in Region Västra
Götaland” on September 24th.
The process of implementation started in November
2013.
The Secretariat of Public Health Committee has started a
new journey with the new regional policy in focus.

The value of Equity Action
• Health equity is an important issue among all
participating countries and regions.
• The policy level makes a big difference.
• Structural Funds as an economic resource can not be
used for health equity.
