theirsportandengageinsafe,faircompetitionwithaspiritoffriendlyrivalry,allinkeepingwithour
mottoof“Union,TrueheartandCourtesie”.Archers,judgesandothersinterpretingtheserulesare
expectedtodososensiblyandrealistically.

Introduction
1. Gender
TheRulesarewritteninthemasculineforsimplicityandavoidanceofrepetition.Unlessthecontext
deemsotherwise,allreferencestomalesreferequallytofemales.
2. WorldArchery(WA)
(a) ArcheryGBisaMemberAssociationofWorldArchery(WA),theinternationalgoverningbody
forarcheryrecognisedbytheInternationalOlympicCommittee.WorldArcherywaspreviously
knownastheFederationInternationaldeTiràl'Arc(FITA).
(b) TherearemanysimilaritiesbetweenWARulesandthoseinthisbook.However,manyofthe
WA rules are geared to the staging of world championship events. Accordingly, shooting will
normallybetotheArcheryGBRulespublishedherein;WArulesmayapplywhenWArecognised
roundsareshotandguidanceisgivenontheapplicationofWAruleswhenshootingatalllevels
oftournament.
(c) ExtractsfromWAConstitutionandRulesareproducedwiththeirpermission.
3. Etiquette.
AGoodArcher:
(a) Doesnottalkinaloudvoicewhilstothersareshooting.
(b) Doesnottalktoanothercompetitorwhoobviouslypreferstobesilent.
(c) Doesnotmakeanyexclamationontheshootinglinethatmightdisconcertaneighbourintheact
ofshooting.
(d) Doesnotgobehindthetargettoretrievehisarrowsbeforehisscorehasbeenrecorded.
(e) Doesnotwalkupanddowntheshootinglinecomparingscores.
(f) Doesnottouchanyoneelse’sequipmentwithoutpermission.
(g) Doesnotleavelitter.
(h) Whencallingscoresdoessoingroupsofthree,forexample‘7-7-5’pause‘5-5-3’.
(j) Ifhebreaksanother’sarrowthroughhisowncarelessness,paysforitincashonthespot.
(k) ThankstheTargetCaptainattheendofeachroundforworkonhisbehalf.
4. ChallengeTrophies
(a) Most Challenge Trophies are valuable and irreplaceable. The holder is responsible for them
whilstinhispossessionandfortheirreturnattheappropriatetimeinacleanandfitcondition
forpresentation,andwithanynecessaryengravingcorrectlyexecuted.
(b) ThecostofengravingofNationalTrophiescanbereimbursedonapplicationtotheArcheryGB
ChiefExecutive.

101.Introduction
(a) These bow safety rules apply to all archery disciplines. Other safety rules are given in the
separatePartsoftheseRules.
(b) EachmemberofArcheryGBhasadutyofcaretoensurethathisactionsdonotcompromisethe
safetyofhimselforothers.
102. General
(a) Noarchermaydrawhisbow,withorwithoutanarrow,exceptwhenstandingattheshooting
line or peg. If an arrow is used, the archer shall aim toward the targets but only after being
satisfiedthatthefieldisclearbothinfrontofandbehindthetargets.
(b) Whendrawingbackthestringofthebowanarchershallnotuseanytechniquewhich,inthe
opinionofthejudges,could,ifaccidentallyloosed,allowthearrowtoflybeyondasafetyzone
or safety arrangements (overshoot area, net, wall, etc). If an archer persists in using such a
technique,hewill,intheinterestofsafety,beimmediatelyaskedbytheJudgetostopshooting
andtoleavethearea.
(c) Ifanyonepresentwherearcheryistakingplacebecomesawarethatshootingshouldbehalted
for safety reasons, that person must call “FAST”. On hearing this call, all archers must
immediatelystopshooting,returningallunshotarrowstothequiver.Ifnecessary,thecallof
“FAST” should be repeated by other archers to ensure that everyone has heard and stopped
shooting.ShootingwillrecommenceonlyontheinstructionoftheJudge.
(d) TheJudge,inconsultationwiththeappointedtournamentorganiserisempoweredtorequire
anyindividualwhoisconsideredtobejeopardisingthesafetyofthetournamenttoimmediately
leavetheshootingground.
103. NumbersPresent
(a) Whenanyshootingisinprogresstheremustbeaminimumoftwopeoplepresenteachbeinga
minimumof18yearsofage,oneofwhommaybeanon-archertoactasalookout.Thearcher
isresponsibletoinformthelookoutofallsafetyaspectsapplicable.Wheretwoadultarchersare
presentandshootingtogethertheywillalternateontheshootinglinesothatthenon-shooting
archercanactasthelookout.
(b) Juniors.Whenjuniorarchers(iearchersunder18)areshootingindividuallyoringroupsthey
must be supervised by an adult member (excluding honorary members) of Archery GB and a
secondadultmustbepresent.
(c) Onprivatelandwhichisfencedallround,wherethepublichasnolegalrightofaccessandwith
awarningnoticedisplayedatallentrancesandpointsofaccess,thefollowingconcessionsmay
applynotwithstandingtheprovisionsof103(a)and(b)above:
(i) Soloshootingbyseniorarchers(iearchers18andover)ispermitted.Anymembershooting
ontheirownisdoingsoattheirownriskinrespectofpersonalinjuries.
(ii) Providedthattheyareanadultmember(excludinghonorarymembers)ofArcheryGB,one
parent/guardianalonemaysupervisehis/herownchild(ren).
104. CrossbowSafety
(a) AcrossbowmayNOTbedrawnorcockedexceptontheshootinglineandinthedirectionofthe
targets, after the arbalist has ensured that the field is clear both in front of and behind the
targets.
(b) Ifshootingisinterruptedforanyreason,crossbowsshallbeloweredimmediatelysothatthey
aredirectedatthegroundimmediatelyinfrontoftheshootinglineandtheboltremoved.
(c) Nopersonlessthan12yearsofagemayshootormanipulateacrossbow.

201. Introduction and General Rules The recognised bowstyles are given below. Additional
informationisalsoprovidedwherenecessarywithintheRulesforeachseparatearcherydiscipline.
Thefollowinggeneralrulesapplytoallbowstyles:
(a) VisualAids.
(i) Fieldglasses,telescopesandothervisualaidsmaybeusedforspottingarrows.
(ii) Prescription spectacles or shooting spectacles, provided they are fitted with the same
lensesnormallywornbythearcher,andsunglassesmaybeused.Theglassofthenonsightingeyemaybefullycoveredortaped,oraneyepatchmaybeused.
(iii) Novisualaidmaybefittedwithmicroholelenses,orsimilardevices,normarkedinanyway
whichcanassistinaiming.
(b) Accessories.Accessoriesarepermittedsuchaslimbsavers,bracer,dressshield,bowsling,belt
orgroundquiver,andtassel.Footmarkersarealsopermittedbutmustnotprotrudeabovethe
groundmorethanonecentimetre.
(c) Broad-head, edged, bodkin, silver spoon and any other large diameter arrow piles are not
permitted.
(d) Anarcher’sequipmentmustnotrepresentanundueobstacletootherarchersontheshooting
line.
(e) Itisthearcher’sresponsibilitytouseequipmentwhichcomplieswiththerules.Anyarcherfound
tobeusingequipmentcontraveningtheseRulesmayhavehisscoresdisqualified.
202. Recurve(Freestyle)Thefollowingitemsarepermitted:
(a) Bow
(i) Abowofanytypeprovideditsubscribestotheacceptedprincipleandmeaningoftheword
bow as used in archery, e.g., an instrument consisting of a handle(grip), riser (no shoot
throughtype)andtwoflexiblelimbseachendinginatipwithastringnock.
(ii) Thebowisbracedforusebyasinglestringattacheddirectlybetweenthetwostringnocks
only,andinoperationisheldinonehandbyitshandle(grip)whilethefingersoftheother
handdraw,holdbackandreleasethestring.
(iii) Multi coloured bow risers and trademarks located on the inside of the upper limb are
permitted.
(b)Bowstring
(i) Abowstringofanynumberofstrandsthatmaybeofdifferentcoloursandofthematerial
chosen for the purpose with a centre serving to accommodate the drawing fingers, a
nockingpointtowhichmaybeaddedserving(s)tofitthearrownockasnecessary,andto
locate this point, one or two nock locators may be positioned, and at each end of the
bowstringalooptobeplacedinthestringnocksofthebowwhenbraced.
(ii) Inadditiononeattachmentispermittedonthestringtoserveasalipornosemark.The
servingonthestringmustnotendwithinthearcher'svisionatfulldraw.Thebowstring
mustinnowayofferaidinaimingthroughapeephole,markingoranyothermeans.
(c) Arrowrest
(i) Anarrowrest,whichcanbeadjustable,anymoveablepressurebutton,pressurepointor
arrowplatemayallbeusedonthebowprovidedtheyarenotelectricorelectronicanddo
notofferanyadditionalaidinaiming.
(ii) Thepressurepointshallbeplacednofurtherthan4cmback(inside)fromthethroatofthe
handle(pivotpoint)ofthebow.
(d) Draw Check Indicator A draw check indicator, audible and/or visual, other than electric or
electronic,maybeused.

(e) BowsightAbowsightispermitted,butatnotimemaymorethanonesuchdevicebeused.It
shallnotincorporateaprism,lens,oranyothermagnifyingdevice,levelling,electricorelectronic
devicesnorshallitprovideformorethanonesightingpoint.
(i) Theoveralllengthofthesightingcircleorpoint(tunnel,tube,sightingpinorother
correspondingextendedcomponent)shallnotexceed2cminthelineofvisionofthe
athlete.
(ii) Asightmaybeattachedtothebowforthepurposeofaimingandwhichmayallow
forwindageadjustmentaswellasanelevationsetting.Itissubjecttothefollowing
provisions:
a.
Abowsightextensionispermitted;
b. Aplateortapewithdistancemarkingmaybemountedonthesightasaguide
formarking,butshallnotinanywayofferanyadditionalaid;
c. Thesightpointmaybeafibreopticsightpin.Thetotallengthofthefibreoptic
pinmayexceed2cm,providedthatoneendisattachedoutsidetheathlete’s
lineofvisionatfulldraw,whilethepartwithintheathlete’slineofvisiondoes
not exceed 2cm in a straight line before bending. It can only provide one
illuminated aiming spot at full draw. The fibre optic pin is measured
independentlyofthetunnel.
(f) StabilizersandTorqueFlightCompensators.Stabilizersandtorqueflightcompensatorsonthe
bowarepermittedprovidedtheydonot:
(i) Serveasastringguide;
(ii) Touchanythingbutthebow;
(g) Arrows.
(i) Arrows of any type may be used provided they comply with the accepted principle and
meaningofthewordarrowasusedinarchery,andthatsucharrowsdonotcauseundue
damagetotargetfacesorbuttresses.Themaximumdiameterofthearrowshaftshallnot
exceed9.3mm.
(ii) Anarrowconsistsofashaftwithatip(point),nocks,fletchingand,ifdesired,cresting.The
maximum diameter of arrow shafts shall not exceed 9.3mm (arrow wraps shall not be
consideredaspartofthislimitationaslongtheydonotextendfurtherthan22cmtoward
thepointofthearrowwhenmeasuredfromthethroat-nockholewherethestringsits-
ofthenocktotheendofthewrap);thetips(points)forthesearrowsmayhaveamaximum
diameterof9.4mm.
(iii) Allarrowsofeveryarchershallbemarkedwiththearcher‘snameorinitialsontheshaft.
Allarrowsusedinanyendshallbeidenticalandshallcarrythesamepatternandcolour(s)
offletching,nocksandcresting,ifany.Tracernocks(electrically/electronicallylightedarrow
nocks)arenotallowed.
(h) HandProtection.
(i) Fingerprotectionintheformoffingerstallsortips,gloves,orshootingtabortape(plaster)
todraw,holdbackandreleasethestringispermitted,providedthatsuchprotectiondoes
notincorporateanydevicetohold,drawandreleasethestring.
(ii) Aseparatorbetweenthefingerstopreventpinchingthearrowand/oraplatformtabmay
beused.
(iii) Onthebowhandanordinaryglove,mittenorsimilaritemmaybewornbutshallnotbe
attachedtothegrip.
203. WAStandardBowTheWAStandardBowisasimplifiedformoftherecurvebowandisfully
describedinWAConstitution&Rules.
204. RecurveBarebowRecurveBarebowisgenerallyasdescribedforRecurve(Freestyle)inRule202
withthefollowingvariations:

(a) Bow
(i) The bow must be bare, except for items mentioned below, and free from protrusions,
marks,blemishesorlaminatedpieceswhichcouldbeofuseinaiming.Multi-colouredrisers
arepermitted.
(ii) Integrallyfittedtorqueflightcompensatorsarepermittedprovidedthattheyarenotfitted
with stabilizers. Weights may be added to the lower part of the riser. All weights,
regardless of shape, must mount directly to the riser without rods, extensions, angular
mountingconnectionsorshockabsorbingdevices.
(b) Bowstring.Thereshallbenoattachmentonthestringtoserveasalipornosemark.
(c) Arrowrest.Thepressurepointshallbeplacednofurtherthan2cmback(inside)fromthethroat
ofthehandle(pivotpoint)ofthebow
(d) Exclusions.Recurvebarebowarchersmaynotuse:
(i) Sights.
(ii) Drawcheckindicator.
(iii) Stabilizers.
205. RecurveTraditionalTheRecurveTraditionalisgenerallyasdescribedforRecurveBarebowin
Rule204butwiththefollowingvariations:
(a) Arrows. Arrow shafts shall be made of wood but with no limit as to maximum diameter.
Fletchingsshallbeofnaturalfeather;metallicpilesandplasticnocksmaybeused.
(b) Arrowrest.Thearrowrestmustnotbeadjustable.Apressurebuttonisnotpermitted.
(c) ShootingStyle.Archersmustadheretooneanchorpointandonefingerpositiononthestring
throughoutatournament.
206. Longbow
(a) Bow. The bow shall be the traditional longbow made from wood, either “self”, “backed”, or
“laminated”withcambered(stacked)bellyandhornnocks.Withtheexceptionofthe“self”bow,
eachlimbofthebowshallformasinglesimplecurvefromthehandletothenockwhenatfull
draw.Thebowshallbenotlessthanfivefeetinlengthforanarrowoflessthan27inchesand;
notlessthanfivefeetsixinchesinlengthfora27”orlongerarrow,thisbeingmeasuredalong
thebackbetweenthestringnocks.Atnopointshallthedepthofthebow,measuredfromback
tobelly,belessthan5/8(fiveeighths)ofthewidthofthebowatthesamesection.Thebow
maycarrynosupportforthearrow.Bowsofbamboo,constructedinconformitywiththeabove,
shallbepermitted.
(b) String.Thestringmaybeofeithernaturalorman-madesubstance,andmay,ifdesired,embody
a “kisser” at any point as required to facilitate a consistent draw position, but for no other
purpose.
(c) SightsandGroundMarkers.Asight,assuch,isnotpermittedbutoneofthefollowingmaybe
used:
(i) Amarkonthebowlimb.
(ii) Arubberbandofnomorethan1/8”indepthandthickness.
(iii) Agroundmarkerofanydesignprovideditdoesnotexceedaheightfromthegroundof6
inchesoradiameterof3inchesorimpedeanyotherarcher.
(d) Arrows.Arrowsshallhavewoodensteles(shafts),shallbefittedwithfeatherfletchings,andmay
have either horn-reinforced, self or applied nocks. There is no limit to the maximum shaft
diameter.Thepileshallnotexceedthediameteroftheshaftatthepointoffitment.Shouldered
piles,whilstnotdisallowed,shouldbeavoidedbecauseofexcessdamagetotargets.Arrows
shallbeproperlymarked,sothatthereshallbenodifficultyinclaimingthem.
(e) HandProtection
(i) Fingerprotectionintheformoffingerstallsortips,gloves,orshootingtabortape(plaster)
todraw,holdbackandreleasethestringispermitted,providedthatsuchprotectiondoes
notincorporateanydevicetohold,drawandreleasethestring.

(ii) Aseparatorbetweenthefingerstopreventpinchingthearrowand/oraplatformtabmay
beused.Anextensionsoastoprovideagreaterangle,priortorelease,otherthanthat
achieved by the use of a normal tab, glove or other form of finger protection, is not
permitted.
(iii) Onthebowhandanordinaryglove,mittenorsimilaritemmaybewornbutshallnotbe
attachedtothegrip.
206AAmericanFlatbow
(a) Bow.Thebowshallcorrespondtothetraditionalformofalongbowwhichmeansthatwhen
strungthestringmaynottouchanyotherpartofthebowbutthestringnocks.Thebowmaybe
made from any material or combination of material. The shape of the grip is not restricted.
Centreshotisallowed.Forwomenthebowwillnotbelessthan150cminlength,formenthe
bowwillbenotlessthan160cminlength–thislengthbeingmeasuredonastrungbowbetween
the string nocks all along the outside of the limbs. No weights, stabilisers or torque flight
compensatorsareallowed
(b) String.Thebowstringmaycompriseofanynumberofstrandswhichmaybedifferentcolours
and of the material chosen for the purpose. The string may have a centre serving to
accommodatethedrawingfingers,asinglenockingpointtowhichmaybeaddedserving(s)tofit
thearrownockasnecessary,andtolocatethispoint1or2nocklocatorsmaybepositionedand
ateachendofthebowstringalooptobeplacedinthestringnocksofthebowwhenbraced.The
servingonthestringmustnotendwithintheathlete’svisionatfulldraw.Thebowstringmust
notinanywayassistaimingthroughtheuseofapeephole,marking,oranyothermeans.Nolip
ornosemarkispermitted.Stringsilencersarepermittedprovidedtheyarelocatednocloser
than30cmfromthenockingpoint.
(c) Arrowrest.Ifthebowhasanarrowshelf,thatshelfmaybeusedasanarrowrestanditmaybe
coveredwithanytypeofsoftmaterial.Noothertypesofrestwillbeallowed.Nodrawcheck
devicemaybeused.
(d) SightandPointofAim.Nosightorsightmarkonthebowthathelpaimingoranyotherartificial
pointofaimisallowed.
(e) Arrows.Arrowsshallhavewoodenshaftsfittedwithpointsofthefieldtypeorbullet,conicalor
coneshapedmeantforwoodenarrows.Onlynaturalfeatherswillbeusedasfletching.Cresting
maybeapplied.Themaximumdiameterofarrowshaftswillnotexceed9.3mm;thepointsfor
thesearrowsmayhaveamaximumdiameterof9.4mm.Allarrowsmustbemarkedwiththe
archer’snameorinitialsontheshaft.Allarrowsusedatanyendwillcarrythesamepatternand
colour(s)offletching,nocksandcresting,ifany.
(f) HandProtection.Fingerprotectionintheformoffingerstallsortips,gloves,shootingtabortape
(plaster)todraw,holdbackandreleasethestringispermitted.
(i) Thefingerprotectionmustnotincorporateanydevicetohold,drawandreleasethestring.
(ii) Ananchorplateorsimilardeviceattachedtothefingerprotection(tab)forthepurposeof
anchoringisnotpermitted.
(ii) Onthebowhandanordinaryglove,mittenorsimilaritemmaybewornbutmustnotbe
attachedtothegrip.
207. Compound(Unlimited)Thefollowingequipmentisdescribed.Alltypesofadditionaldevices,
unlesstheyareelectricorelectronic,arepermitted:
(a) Bow.
(i) Abow,(whichmaybeofashootthroughtype)whereamechanicaladvantageisobtained,
egbytheuseofaccessorylimbs,levers,pulleys,eccentricsorsimilardevices.Thepeak
drawweightmustnotexceed60lbs.
(ii) Thebowisbracedforusebybowstring(s)attacheddirectlybetweenthetwostringnocks
of the bow limbs, or attached to the bow cables, as may be applicable to the particular
design.Cableguardsarepermitted.
(iii) Thebowmustbefreeandheldinthehand.

(b) Bowstring.
(i) Abowstringofanynumberofstrandsthatmaybeofdifferentcoloursandofthematerial
chosen for the purpose, with a centre serving to accommodate the drawing fingers or
releaseaid.
(ii) Anockingpointmaybefittedtowhichmaybeaddedserving(s)tofitthearrownockas
necessary.Tolocatethispointoneortwonocklocatorsmaybefitted.
(iii) Inadditionattachmentsarepermittedonthestringsuchasalipornosemark,apeephole
(whichmustbesecuredtothestring),apeephole'holdinline'device,loopbowstring,etc.
(c) Arrowrest.
(i) Anarrowrest,whichcanbeadjustable,anymoveablepressurebutton,pressurepointor
arrowplate,mayallbeusedonthebowprovidedthattheyarenotelectricorelectronic.
(ii) Thepressurepointshallbeplacednofurtherthan6cmback(inside)fromthethroatofthe
handle(pivotpointofthebow).
(d) Draw Check Indicators Draw check indicators, audible and/or visual, other than electric or
electronic,maybeused.
(e) BowsightAbowsightattachedtothebow,whichmayallowforwindageadjustmentaswellas
elevationsettingwhichmayalsoincorporatealevelingdevice,and/ormagnifyinglensesand/or
prisms.Abowsightextensionispermitted.Electricorelectronicdevicesarenotpermitted.The

Shooting
(a) Shooting shall be from an unsupported standing position with the body above the shooting
line.Disabledarchersmayuseappropriatesupport.
(b) (i) Theorderinwhicharchersshallshootattheirrespectivetargetsshallbetheorderin
whichtheyappearonthetargetlistandthedrawingupofthetargetlistshallbeamatter
forarrangementbytheTournamentOrganisers.Unlessotherwisedirected,thearchers
oneachtargetshallbedesignatedA,B.C,D,etc.intheorderinwhichtheyappearonthe
targetlist.ThearcherdesignatedCshallbetheTargetCaptainandthearcherdesignated
DshallbetheLieutenant. TheCaptainshallberesponsiblefortheorderlyconductof
shootinginaccordancewiththeseRulesofShooting.
(ii) The order of shooting at all Record Status Tournaments shall rotate. For other
Tournaments,includingClubTargetDays,rotationshallbeoptional.
(c) Atatournamentif,foranyreasonanarcherisaloneonatargethemustnotifytheJudgewho
shallarrangeforscoringintegritytobemaintained.Thismaybeachievedbytransferringarchers
betweentargetsorbyarrangingforanarcheronanadjacenttargettoparticipateinscoringthe
lonearcher’sarrows.
(d) Themaximumnumberofarchersonatargetshallbesix.
(e) CompositionofEnds
(i) ForallImperialrounds,theLongMetricroundsandthetwolongestdistancesoftheMetric
I-Vrounds,sixarrowsshallbeshotatanend.
(ii) ForotherMetricroundseitherthreeorsixarrowsmaybeshotatanend.
(f) TimingofEnds.Archerswillshootendsofthreeorsixarrows,asrequiredbytheroundbeing
shot,underoneofthefollowingmethodscontrolledbytheJudge:
(i) Method1.
a. Onesoundsignalshallindicatewhenthefirstshootingdetailshalltaketheirplaceon
thelineandbeginshooting.Eacharchershallshootthreearrowsandimmediately
retire,beingreplacedbythearcherfromthesubsequentdetail.Whenallonatarget
haveshot,thearcher,ifrequired,shallshootthreemorearrows.Ifanarcherpersists
in shooting more than three arrows consecutively, he may be disqualified by the
Judge.
b. Whenallarchershaveshot,threesoundsignalsshallindicatethatarchersaretomove
forwardtoscoreandcollectarrows.Noarchershalladvancefromtheshootingline
beforereceivingthesignal.
c. Two and a half minutes shall be the maximum time for an archer to shoot three
arrows,thetimetostartfromwhenthearcherstepsontotheshootingline.
d. Anyarcherwhoisobservedtobeexceedingthetimelimitof2½minutesforthree
arrowsshallbeadvisedofthetimeerrorafterretiringfromtheshootingline.The
scoresheetforthatarchershallbemarkedatthatendtorecordthewarninginthe
followingmanner—“Timewarning”.Thearcherwillalsobeadvisedthatanyfurther
violationofthe2½minutetimelimitwillresultinthetopscoringarrowofthatend
beingdisallowed.Shouldthiscontinuetothedetrimentoftheshootortheother
archers on that target, the offending archer will be asked to retire from the
tournament.
(ii) Method2.Shootingshallbeintimedendscontrolledbyaudiblesignalswhichmaybe
supplementedwithlights(threeseparatelightsshouldbeused)andcountdowntiming
clocks.Thesequenceandarrangementsareasfollows:

shootingline.Allothercompetitorswiththeirequipment,shallremainbehindthewaitingline
savethatanarchermayleaveaspottingscopeontheshootinglinebetweenendsprovidingit
doesnotcreateanobstacleforanyotherarcher.AJudgeshallusediscretioninallowingdisabled
archersand/ortheirequipmenttoremainonthelineifcircumstancespermit.
AtanyMeetingsixarrowsmaybeshotassightersbeforethebeginningofeachround,butonly
aftercompetitorshavecomeundertheJudge’sordersattheAssembly.Suchsightersshallnot
berecorded.
Anarchermayonlycompeteonce,thefirsttimeofshooting,inanyeventregardlessoftheclass
ofequipmentused,thenumberofsessionsintheeventandwhethertheeventextendsover
morethanoneday.
Whilstanarcherisontheshootingline,heshallreceivenoinformationbywordorotherwise
fromanyoneexcepttheJudge.
Ifforanycause,otherthanfailureofhisequipment,anarcherisnotpreparedtoshootbefore
allhaveshot,sucharchershalllosethebenefitofthatend.
IntheeventofanequipmentfailurethearchershallsignalaJudge.Extratimeuptoamaximum
of 15 minutes may be allowed for the correction of the failure. The archer shall shoot any
remainingarrowsfromtheendattheearliestopportunityunderthesupervisionoftheJudge.
Shouldanitemofequipmentotherthanthearrowbeprojectedbeyondtheshootingline,the
Judgemaycall‘Fast’attheconclusionofthatendtopermitretrievaloftheitem,thefailureto
berectifiedandthearcherallowedtoshootanyremainingarrowsbeforethefieldadvancesto
score.
Intheeventofanarchershootingmorethanthespecifiednumberofarrowsatanendthearcher
shallbepenalisedbylosingthevalueofhisbestarrow(s)inthetarget,andsucharrow(s)shall
notbemeasuredforaGoldprize.
Providedthatithasnotrebounded,anarrowshallbedeemednottohavebeenshotifpartof
thearrowshaftlieswithin3metresoftheshootingline.Inthiscaseanotherarrowmaybeshot
initsplace.Ifanotherarrowisnotavailablethearchermayretrievethearrowonlywiththe
Judge’spermission.
Archersarrivinglateshallnotbeallowedtomakeupanyendsthattheyhavemissed.
(i) AnarchermayretirefromcompetitionatanytimebytellingtheTargetCaptainwhowill
markthearcher’sscoresheet‘retired’andthearcherwillsignit.
(ii) IfaTargetCaptainperceivesthatatargetcompanionhasdeliberatelynotshotanendhe
mustdrawthistothejudge’sattention.Unlessthearcherhasobtainedthejudge’spermission to miss the end the judge will instruct the Target Captain to mark the scoresheet
‘retired’andthejudgewillsignit.
(iii) Anyscoremarked‘retired’willnotbeeligibleforaplacingintheresultsbutwillbeshown
separatelyattheendoftheresultswiththescoreatretirementandthenumberofdozens
shot.Thearcherwillbeeligibleforawardsachievedtothatpointe.g.bestgold,distance
awardorsixgoldbadgebutnotforinclusioninateamscoreoranyotherArcheryGBaward.

Anarcherwhosescoresheetismarked‘retired’mayrecommenceshootingonlywiththe
judge’spermissionandifitisconvenientbuthisscorewillnolongerberecorded.
305. ControlofShooting
(a) (i) Atalltimes,whenevershootingtakesplace,itmustbeunderthecontrolofaFieldCaptain.
(ii) Atrecordstatusmeetings,theFieldCaptainshallbeaJudgerecognisedbyArcheryGB.The
grade of judge-in-charge required for each level of tournament and other relevant
informationisgivenatAppendixB.
(iii) Atnon-recordstatusmeetingsaJudgemayappointexperiencedarchersasassistantField
Captains to help in the running of a shoot. A Judge may delegate his authority to such
appointedassistants
(iv) AttournamentstheJudgeandFieldCaptainsshallbenon-shooting.
(v) ForthepurposesoftheseRules,thetermJudgeshallembracebothJudgeandFieldCaptain
unlessthecontextindicatesotherwise.
(b) TheJudgeshallbeinsolecontroloftheshooting,shallresolvealldisputesinaccordancewith
theRulesofShootingandmakeanynecessaryinterpretationandanydecisiononoccurrences
notcoveredbythem.
(c) TheJudgeshallgivethesignalforassembly15minutesbeforethetimeappointedforshooting.
(d) TheJudgeshallberesponsibleformeasuringarrowsforthepurposeofGoldprizes.
(e) TheJudgeshallbeempoweredtodisqualifyanyarcherifheobservesanybreachoftheShooting
RulesorhasanysuchbreachreportedtohimbyaFieldCaptainorTargetCaptain.
(f) TheJudgemayorderthereplacementofafaultytarget,ormaymovethearcherstoausable
one.
(g) TheJudge,inconsultationwiththeSecretaryorOrganiser,shallberesponsiblefor
(i) Decidingthedurationofintervalsformeals,refreshmentsandthelike.
(ii) Suspendingshootingduetoweatherconditions,accidentsorlikeoccurrences.
(iii) Makinganyotherarrangementsasneededineachcase.
(h) Competitors’equipmentmaybecheckedbythejudgesbeforeandatanytimeduringtheshoot.
(j) The Judge shall exercise control over the use of loudspeakers and photographers and the
presenceofotherspectatorssothatthecomfortandconcentrationofcompetitorsisnotdisturbed.
(k) (i) If an archer, while drawing his bow with an arrow before the shooting starts or during
breaksbetweendistances,loosesanarrow,intentionallyorotherwise,theJudgeshallmake
anoteonthearcher’sscoresheetindicatingwhathasoccurred.Suchanarrowshallform
partofthenextscoringend.Aftertheremainingarrowsofthenextscoringendhavebeen
shot,thevalueofthehighestscoringarrowwillbeforfeit.TheJudgeshalltakepartinthat
competitor’sscoringandannotatethearcher’sscoresheetaccordingly.
(ii) Similarly,ifanarchershootsasighterarrowbeforeorafterthesignalsindicatingthetime

(d) Thescorershallentertotalsasrequiredonthescoresheet.Thearcherandthescorershallthen
checkthescoresheetandsignitascorrect.Itiseacharcher’sindividualresponsibilitytoensure
thatallaspectsofhisscoresheetarecorrectwhentheysign.Atournamentorganiserisnot
requiredtochecktheadditionsonascoresheetbut,ifanerrorisdiscovered,hasdiscretionto
altertotalsaccordingly.
(e) Ifanarrowtouchestwocoloursoranydividinglineitshallbescoredasbeingofthatofthehigher
value.
(f) Ifanydoubtordisputeastoarrowvalueshallarise itshallbedecidedbytheTargetCaptain
subjecttoappealtotheJudge,whosedecisionshallbefinal.
(g) AnyalterationtotherecordedarrowvaluemustbeinitialledbytheJudgeinadifferentcoloured
inkpriortothewithdrawalofthearrowfromthetarget.Noarrowsshallbewithdrawnfrom
thetarget(withouttheexpressdirectionoftheTargetCaptain)untilallthearchers’scoreshave
been entered on the score sheet and the Target Captain is satisfied that they are correctly
entered.
(h) (i) If an arrow is observed to rebound from a target, the archer concerned shall draw the
attentionoftheJudgetothefactafterhavingshothissixtharrow(orthirdifshootingin
endsof3only)byretiringtwopacesfromtheshootinglineandholdinghisbowabovehis
head.
(ii) UpontheJudgesatisfyinghimselfthattheclaimisjustified,thearchershallbepermitted
toshootanotherarrowseparatelyinthesameendafterallarchersonthattargethave
completedtheirnormalshooting,sucharrowtobenumberedorpreferablymarkedbythe
Judge.
(iii) The Judge shall take part in that competitor’s scoring to ensure that only the correct
numberofarrowsarescored,andthatthereboundwasnotcausedbystrikinganother
arrowalreadyinthetarget.
(iv) Topreventfrivolousreboundclaims,thearcheristobewarnedindividuallythatifthefull
numberoforiginalarrows(6or3asappropriatetotheround)wereshotnotincludinga
rebound,thenhishighestscoringarrowmay,atthediscretionoftheJudgeonrepetition
ofafalseclaim,bedeductedfromthatend’sscore.
(j) Anarrowpassingthroughabosscannotbescored.

(k) Anarrowpassingthroughthetargetfacebutremaininginthebossshallbewithdrawnbythe
TargetCaptainorLieutenantandshallbeinsertedfromthebackinthesameplaceandatthe
assumedangleoforiginalpenetrationuntilthepileisvisibleinthetargetface,whenthescore
shallbedetermined.
(l) An arrow hitting and remaining embedded in another arrow shall be scored the same as the
arrowstruck.
(m) Anarrowinthetarget,whichhasormayhavebeendeflectedbyanotherarrowalreadyinthe
target,shallbescoredaccordingtothepositionofitsshaftinthetargetface.
(n) Anarrowonthegroundbelievedtohavehitandreboundedfromanotherarrowshallbescored
the value of the struck arrow, if the latter is found in the target with its nock damaged in a
compatiblemanner.
(o) Ifanarrowfailstoenterthebossandishanginginthetargetface,thenallarchersusingthat
bossshallstopshootingandsignalajudge.Theactionsaredependentonthetimingmethodin
use,seeRule304(f).
(i) UsingMethod1.Thejudgecalls“Fast”tostopallshooting.Thearcherwiththehanging
arrowshallgotothetargetwiththejudge,whoshallscorethearrow,removeitfromthe
targetandplaceitbehindthetarget.Whenthefieldisclear,thejudgeshallsignalshooting
tocontinuewithaonesoundsignal.
(ii) UsingMethod2.Attheendofthecurrentshootingperiodthejudgeshallstoptheshoot.
Thearcherwiththehangingarrowshallgotothetargetwiththejudge,whoshallscorethe
arrow,removeitfromthetargetandplaceitbehindthetarget.Whenthefieldisclear,the
judgeshallsupervisethearchersusingthatbosswhilsttheyshoottheirun-shotarrows,
allowing40secondsperarrow.Thereafter,theshootshallcontinue.
The Judge shall ensure that the appropriate score is recorded when scoring takes place. A
hangingarrowthatfallsoutbeforeitcanbescoredshallbetreatedasabouncer.
(p) Anarrowhittingatargetfaceotherthanthearcher'sowndesignatedfaceshallbeconsideredas
partofthatendandshallbescoredasamiss.
(q) Anarchermaydelegateanotherarcheronthesametargettorecordhisscoreandpickuphis
arrows.
(r) Anincapacitatedarchermaynominateanassistant,whoshallbeunderthecontrolanddiscipline
oftheJudge,torecordhisscoreandpickuphisarrows.

408. RegulationsfortheWorcesterRound
(a) The Rules of Target Archery – Indoor shall apply except as enumerated in the following
paragraphs.
(b) TargetFaces.Thetargetfaceusedshallbeeither:
(i) Fullsize.Beingcircular40.64cm(16in)indiametercomposedasfollows:
a. Acircleinthecentre8.13cm(3.2in)diameterringedbyfourconcentricbands,the
breadthofeachmeasuredradiallybeing4.064cm(1.6in).
b. Thecentrecircleshallbecolouredwhiteandthefourconcentricbandsblack.The
concentricbandsshallbedividedbywhitelines.Eachofthewhitedividinglinesshall
beofnogreaterwidththat1mm(0.04in).Suchdividinglinesshallbeentirelywithin
thehigherscoringzone.
(ii) Five-Centre.Thesefaceshavethesamedimensionsasthefullsizefacebutwiththethree

500. General
(a) Classes. There may be separate classes for Ladies, Gentlemen, Junior Ladies and Junior
Gentlemen.
(b) Juniors
(i) Juniorarchersarethoseunder18yearsofage.Theyareplacedinthefollowingcategories
oragegroupsaccordingtotheirageonthe(last)dayofthetournament:

501. Courselayout
(a) Coursesshouldbelaidoutinsuchawayastoprovidesafety,maximuminterestandvariety.
Targets shall be arranged along a course with such difficulties in aiming and shooting as the
terrainpresentsandthespiritandtraditionsofthedisciplinerequire.Directionindicatorsshould
beplacedasnecessarytoensuresafety.
(b) Suitablebarriersshallbeplacedaroundthecourse,wherevernecessary,tokeepspectatorsata
safedistance.Onlythosepersonshavingobtainedpermissionshallbeallowedonthecourse
insidethebarriers.
(c) Alltargetsshallbenumberedinsuccessionandthenumberboard,whichcanbeusedasastop
peg,placedwithintheapproachtotheshootingpostforthattarget.
(d) AttargetsforallStamproundsthereshallbesufficientareafortwocompetitorstostandsideby
sideandabletoshootatthesametime.
(e) Crossbowtargetsshallbefixedbelowskyline.
(f) Thebuttsshallprovideforamarginofatleast5cmoutsidethelowestscoringzone(s)ofthe
face(s)placeduponthem.Atnopointmayanytargetfacebelessthan15cmfromtheground.
Inallinstances,regardlessoftheterrain,thebuttshouldbeplacedreasonablyperpendicularto

503. Judging
(a) (i) Atalltimes,whenevershootingtakesplace,itmustbeunderthecontrolofaFieldCaptain.
(ii) Atrecordstatusmeetings,theFieldCaptainshallbeaJudgerecognisedbyArcheryGB.The
grade of judge-in-charge required for each level of tournament and other relevant
informationisgivenatAppendixB.
(iii) Atnon-recordstatusmeetingsaJudgemayappointexperiencedarchersasassistantField
Captains to help in the running of a shoot. A Judge may delegate his authority to such
appointedassistants
(iv) AttournamentstheJudgeandFieldCaptainsshallbenon-shooting.
(v) ForthepurposesoftheseRules,thetermJudgeshallembracebothJudgeandFieldCaptain
unlessthecontextindicatesotherwise.
(b) ThedutiesoftheChairmanandotherJudgesshallbe:
(i) Toensurethatadequatesafetyprecautionshavebeenobservedinthelayoutofthecourse
andwarm-uparea.
(ii) Before shooting commences, to satisfy by inspection that all the archers’ equipment
conforms to Archery GB rules and the archers’ given style. If applicable a judge, being
satisfiedthatthearchers’equipmentconformstothestylewrittenonthescorecards,will
signtothateffectonthefrontofthescorecards.
(iii) To address the assembled competitors before the shoot commences about safety
precautionsandanyotherappropriatematter,includingthemethodofstartingtheevent,
thestartingpointsofeachgroup,etc.
(iv) Toensurethatallcompetitorsareconversantwiththerulesofthecompetitionandthe
methodofscoring.
(v) Toresolvedisputesorqueriesthatmayariseininterpretationoftherulesorothermatters.
504. Shooting
(a) Duringwarm-up,theareabeingusedshallbeunderthecontrolofajudgeorcompetentarcher.
Itisrecommendedthatshootingperiodsoffiveminutesbeallowedandathensoundsignalgiven
forthearcherstoapproachandclearthetargets.
(b) Incompetition,eachshootinggroupshallconsistofnotmorethan6andnofewerthan3archers,
Number1ofeachshootinggrouponthetargetlistwillbeTargetCaptain.

TheTargetCaptainshallberesponsiblefortheorderlyconductofshootingwithinthegroup,and
havethegeneralresponsibilityforscoringthearrows.Inthecaseofadispute,aJudgeshallmake
thefinaldecision.
Groupsshallbeassignedtostartsimultaneouslyfromvarioustargetsandwillcompletetheround
atthetargetprevioustotheoneatwhichtheystarted.Additionalgroupsassignedtoatarget
shall wait until the primary group on that target has shot and scored their arrows before
proceeding.
Competitorsinagroupmayallowothergroupstoshootthrough,providedtheOrganizersand/or
theJudgesarenotifiedaboutthechangeatthefirstopportunity.
Archerswaitingtheirturntoshootshallstandwellbackbehindthearcherswhoareshooting,
preferablyatthenumberboard.
Shooting Position. The archer’s more forward foot must be in contact with and behind the
shootingpostwhileshooting.
Ifanarrowisobservedtoreboundfrom,orisbelievedtohavepassedthroughthetargetface,a
Judge shall check it, and if it appears that the arrow has rebounded or passed through then
another arrow may be shot at that face from the same position from which the bouncing or
passingthrougharrowwasshot.
Anarrowshallbedeemednottohavebeenshotif:
(i) Thearrowhasnotreboundedandthearchercantouchitwithhisbowwithoutmovinghis
feetfromtheirpositioninrelationtotheshootingline.Inthiseventanotherarrowmaybe
shot.
(ii) Thetargetfaceorbuttressfallsover(inspiteofhavingbeenfixedtothesatisfactionofthe
Judges). The Judges will take whatever measure they deem necessary and compensate
adequatetimeforshootingtherelevantnumberofarrows.Ifthebuttressonlyslidesdown
itwillbelefttotheJudgestodecidewhatactiontotake,ifany.
Timing.
(i) WhenacompetitororagroupiscausingunduedelaytheJudgewillwarnthecompetitor
orgroupafterwhichtheymaybetimed.
(ii) Forallrounds,whethermarkedorunmarkeddistancesthetimingbeginswhenthearcher
takeshisshootingposition,whichheshalldoassoonasitbecomesavailable.Thearcher
isallowed1½minutesperarrow.
(iii) AJudge,havingobservedanarcherexceedthetimelimit,shallcautionhimbyasigned
noteonthescorecard,indicatingthetimeofthewarning.Atthesecondandsubsequent
warnings,duringthattournament,thearcher’shighestscoringarrowatthetargetwhere
thewarningisgiven,shallbeannulled.
Incaseofequipmentfailuretheorderofshootingmaybechangedtemporarily.Inanyeventno
morethan30minutesshallbeallowedtorepairanyequipmentfailure.Theothercompetitors
inthatgroupshallshootandscoretheirarrowsbeforeallowinganyfollowinggroupstoshoot
through.Iftherepairiscompletedwithinthetimelimitthecompetitorinquestionmaymake
upanyarrowsremainingtobeshotonthattarget.Iftherepairiscompletedlaterthecompetitor
mayrejoinhisgroupbutwilllosethearrowshisgrouphasshotinthemeantime.
Nopersonshallrelatetocompetingarchersthetargetdistancesonunmarkedcoursesduringthe
tournament.
Althoughtherearenospecificdressregulationsinfieldarchery,allcompetitors,fieldpartyand
officialsshouldwearbrightvisiblecolours.Footwearthatfullyenclosesthetoesandfrontofthe
footmustbewornatalltimeswhenshooting.
ShootingSafety.Whilstscoringandlookingformissingarrows,onememberoftheshooting
groupmuststayinfrontofthebutttowarnotherarchersthattheareaisoccupied.
Atanyeventwherebothanunmarkedroundandamarkedroundarebeingshoton
predominatelythesamecourse,theunmarkedroundistobeshotfirst.
505. Scoring
(a) Twoofeachshootinggroupshallbescorers.Eachshallbesuppliedwithaseparatesetofscore
cardsforthegroup.Thedutiesofthescorersshallbeasfollows:

Ifmorethantheprescribednumberofarrowsbelongingtothesamecompetitorshouldbefound
inthetargetoronthegroundoftheshootinglanes,onlytheappropriatenumberofarrowsof
lowestvalueshallbescored.Shouldacompetitorbefoundtorepeatthishemaybedisqualified.
Shouldafragmentofatargetfacebemissing,includingadividinglineorwheretwocolorsmeet,
orifthedividinglineisdisplacedbyanarrow,thenanimaginarylineshallbeusedforjudging
thevalueofanyarrowthatmayhitsuchapart.
ArrowsembeddedinthebuttressandnotshowingonthefacecanonlybescoredbyaJudge.

604. General
(a) IntheeventofbreakageasubstituteboworlimbsmaybeusedprovidingtheRangeCaptain
confirmsthatthebowstillcomplieswiththeclass/weightdivision.Anysubstitutebowmustbe
shotintheappropriatedivision.
(b) Arrowsmustbearthefollowingidentification:
(i) Name or initials of contestant and a non-duplicated serial number affixed to the arrow
shaft,andregisteredwiththeofficials.
(ii) Stamporcodemarkindicationclass,affixedbytheofficials.
(c) Thetermmechanicalasappliedtobowsandequipmentshallbetakentomeananymethodthat
embodiesapluralityofinteractingparts,whethersuchareindividualpiecesorspringco-joined
partscapableofcooperativelyactingtoeffectbowstringreleasebyaseparatingmovementof
atleastonesuchpartrelativetoanother.
605. Shooting
(a) Competitorsshouldbeatleastsixfeetapart,andmustnotadvancetheirleadingfootoverthe
shootingline.
(b) Eachcompetitormayhaveoneassistantoradvisor,whomustkeepatleastoneyardbehindthe
shootingline.
(c) (i) Atleastoneendofsixarrowswillbeshotperbowclass/division.Fourendswillbethe
maximumarrowsshotinatournament.
(ii) If a competitor shoots more than six arrows at any one end, the longest shot arrows in
excessofthesixarrowsallowedshallbedisqualified.
(iii) Nocompetitorshallbeallowedtocarryanyarrowswhenmovingforwardoftheshooting
line.

(iv) Afterallclasseshaveshotthefirstend,competitorsandofficialswillgoforwardingroups
ofatleast2personstofindandmarkthearrows.Thegroup,actingtogether,willplacea
markerwithalabelattachedbearingthenameofthearcherandclass/weightdivisionat
the measuring point (see Rule 607) of the archer’s furthest arrow. Arrows will then be
withdrawn.
(v) Succeeding ends may then be shot and the process of finding and marking arrows
repeated.Ifnecessary,markerswillbeadjusted.
(vi) LostarrowsmustbereportedtotheRangeCaptainandarecordmadeoftheiridentity
beforethenextendisshot,Iffoundduringsubsequentendsandshowingnoevidenceof
having been moved or disturbed, the arrow may be considered in the competition. No
arrowmaybemeasuredaftertheRangeCaptainhasdeclaredthecompetitionclosed.

Range Captain/s. The grade of judge-in-charge (the Range Captain) required for each level of

1101Implementation.
(a) InClubsandatnon-UKRecordStatusTournaments;archersmayself-declaretheirdisability
anduseanyvariationfromourRulesofShootingprovidedthatitissafe.Evidenceofdisability
shouldonlybeaskedforinexceptionalcircumstances.Clubsshallallowsucharcherstoaccess
theclub-basedhandicapandarcherclassificationsystems.

1200.Introduction
(a) These rules have been prepared in consultation with British Blind Sport to enable Visually
Impaired(VI)archerstoshootinfullaccordancewiththeArcheryGBRulesofShooting,andto
take a more active part in the sport during practice, at club target days, competitions and
tournaments.
(b) TheserulesareaimedatintegratingVIarchersintothesport.
(c) AVIArchershallbedefinedasfollows:
(i) Thearchermustberegisteredorregisterableasblindorpartiallysighted(medicalform
BD8)
(ii) Thearchermustholdarecognisedsightclassificationcertificate.Theclassificationwillbe
donewithbestvisualcorrectionaccordingtothemostfunctionaleye,withoutconsidering
whetherthearcherisleftorrighthanded.
(iii) Therearemorespecificsightcategorydivisionswithindisabilityevents,whichcanbe
obtainedonrequestfromtheArcheryGBDisabilitiesCommitteeorBBS.
1201.RulesofShooting–General
(a) The Archery GB Rules of Shooting for Target Archery shall apply to VI archers except as
enumeratedinthefollowingparagraphs.
1202.Shooting
(a) ExceptwhentheBurntwoodmetricroundequivalentisbeingshot(Rule1205)aVIarchermay
shootacompleteend(sixarrowswhereappropriate)beforereturningfromtheshootingline.At
a competition this allowance shall be at the discretion of the tournament organiser, after
consultationwiththeJudge.
(b) Whenpossible,VIarchersshallbepermittedtoshootanendofsightingarrowsateachchange
ofdistance(exceptwhentheBurntwoodRoundequivalentisbeingshotRule1205).
(c) WhenVIarchersshootinonedetail,aVIarchermaybepermittedtoutilisethetimeallowedfor
sightingarrows,byshootingmoresightingarrows,butmustnotholduptheshootingline.
(d) AVIarchershallbepermittedtohaveapersonactingasaspotterwhoshallbeallowedtostand
betweenthewaitingandtheshootinglines.ThespottermayonlygivetheirVIarchersatthe
shootinglineinformationastothefallofeacharrow(includinga‘bouncer’)andanynecessary
safetywarnings,butnootheradvice.Aspottershallpassinformationtothearcherinsucha
mannerastoavoiddisturbancetootherarchersontheshootingline.
(e) AssistanceinadjustinganysightingdevicemaybegiventoaVIarcherbyathirdpartyonlyduring
sightingendsandbetweenshootingends.
(f) AspottermaybenominatedasanassistantasprovidedinRule306(r)whoshallatalltimesbe
underthecontrolanddisciplineoftheJudge.
(g) A VI archer shall only approach the target when accompanied by his/her spotter or with the
expressconsentoftheJudge.(Safetyissue)
(h) Inthecaseofadditionalphysicalimpairments,awheelchair,perchingstoolorstandardchairis
allowed.
1203.HandicapandClassificationSchemes
(a) Any handicap or classification scheme in use by visually impaired archers shall, in general,
conformtotheprocedureslaiddownforsightedarchers

(b) Ifavisuallyimpairedarcherfromtimetotimeusesmorethanonetypeofsightingaid,aseparate
handicap/classificationrecordsheetmustbemaintainedforeachsightingaid.Whentakingpart
inanyhandicap/classificationcompetitionthearchermustuseonlythehandicap/classification
obtainedwiththetypeofsightingaidusedinthatcompetition.
(c) For National Records on VI archery, the BBS records officer should be contacted and shall be
responsibleforthemaintenanceandadministrationoftheserecords.
1204.Equipment
(a) EquipmentusedbyaVIarchermustgenerallyconformtothespecificationgiveninPart2.In
addition,aVIarchermayuseatactilesightingdeviceandfootlocationdeviceprovidedthatthey
satisfytheconditionslaiddowninthefollowingsub-paragraphs.
(b) Atactilesightingdevicemustnotactasasupporttothebow,bowhandorarm(unlessrequired
bythearcher’sphysicaldisability).
(c) Atactilesightingdevicemustbecapableofbeingadjustedbythearcherwithoutmovingfrom
theshootingline.
(d) Thetactilesightingdevicemaytouchuponanypartofthebowhandorarmbutnopartofitshall
befurtherfromthearcher’sbodythanthebowhandwhenthebowisfullydrawn.
(e) Where the tactile sighting device works in conjunction with a long-rod stabilizer, then Rule
202(f)(ii)shallnotapply,providedthatnopartofthedeviceshallbemorethansixinches(15cm)
forwardofthearcher’sbowhandwhenthebowisfullydrawnandthesupportingequipmentto
whichthatdeviceisattachedstandsonthegroundontheoppositesideofthebowtothearrow
rest.Inadditionthedevicemustbefittedwithabarsoastopreventthebowbeingloweredby
morethanthreeinches(7.5cm)atthetimeofreleaseofanarrow.
Note:Thepurposeofthisruleistopreventanarrowreleasefrominadvertentlystrikinganypartof
thesightingdevice.Ifthedimensionsofabowaresuchthatthedistancebetweenthestabilizer
andthearrowrestislessthan4inches(10cm)asmeasuredintheverticalplane,thenthebar
referredtoabovemustbesopositionedthatthebowcannotbeloweredbymorethanoneinch
(2.5cm)lessthanthedistancebetweenstabilizerandarrowrest.
(f) The sighting device stand/foot location device must not represent an obstacle to other
competitors.
(g) Thetotallengthofthefootlocationdeviceshallbenomorethan110cm(43inches)
(h) Thetotalwidthofthetripod/footlocationdeviceshallbenomorethan75cm(29.5inches)
(j) Themaximumdepthofthefootlocationdeviceshallbenomorethan3cm(1.25inches)
(k) Generally,tactilesightingdevicesmayonlybeusedbyVIarcherswhocannotuseabowsightor
adaptedbowsight.Exceptionally,whereanarcherwhoisregisteredblindwishestoshootfor
anIPCperformancescore,atactileaidmaybeusedbutthearcheristowearablindfoldwhich
mustbeinplacewhilstthearcherisinfrontofthewaitingline.
(l) AbowsightmaybeadaptedtosuittheresidualvisionofthearcherandthusinthiscaseRule
202(e)(i)shallnotapply.
(m) Abowsightmayincorporateprisms,lensorothermagnificationdevice,enlargedsightring/pin,
andmayprovideformorethanonesightingpoint.Theseadaptationsmaybemadetoallbow
typesusedbyarecognisedVIarcher(asdefinedinrules1200(c)(d)and(e)).
(n) Equipment may include electronic sighting devices (otherwise prohibited by Part 2) utilising
