This was the first year that the three-day event was held at Texas Station after a successful run at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The field of players was comprised of Medalist League players from throughout the United States, but the event also had an international flavor with players from Spain, France, England, Thailand and Japan. A total of 24 “flights” were offered (eight per day, split into two daily sessions AM/PM). The tournament kicked off Thursday with ’01 Medley Doubles competition in four flights (C, B, A, Super A), followed up in the evening session by Cricket Doubles format in three flights (C, B, A). Also in the evening session was the Grand Master Pro-Am where players’ names were drawn via lottery two weeks prior to the event to build four-member teams – three players of various abilities paired with a Medalist Grand Master (players rated 13 or above) – to play in an ’01 Medley best-of-five format. Friday opened with championship competition in four Medley Doubles events (AM Session) – the evening session featuring four ’01 Medley Singles titles up for grabs. The final day of the tournament on Saturday featured championships in four Medley Singles/Doubles flights (a format combining Singles and Doubles games) in the “AM Session,” followed by four Cricket Medley Doubles crowns being decided that evening (PM Session). For teams knocked out of prize money contention, there were additional opportunities to win cash in 10 “Consolation” flights. All teams missing out on earning prize money in the “Main” events were guaranteed a second opportunity in the World Championship “Consolations” – all “Mains” were followed with “Consolations.” * Every event winner(s) listed here took first place at the 2009 Medalist World Championships "A" Flight Jim Dillard, Phil Royer “B” Flight Pat Farrell "Super" Flight Augustine Castillo, Thad Uraine “A” Flight Steve Roth '01 Medley Doubles “Super” Flight John Husman “B/C” Consolation Doug Beck, Brian Swapp Medley Singles/Doubles “A/B” Consolation Joe Christensen, Tom Perry “C” Flight Stormi Rania, Rick Boebel Cricket Doubles “B” Flight Brandon Fujinaga, Clifford Briosso “C” Flight Brandi Chaney, Debbie Fairhurst “B” Flight Garrett Higa, Clifford Briosso “A” Flight Travis Jones, Kevin Hopper '01 Medley Grand Master Pro-Am Natthakhom Daochanngam, Terry Cook, Larry Eans, Chris Perkins “A” Flight Antonio Johnson, Delois Carraway “Super” Flight Watanyu Charoonroj, Srirath Puthvorakit Medley Doubles “B/C” Consolation Rene Soto, Al Brewer “A/B” Consolation Allen Nutter, Mike Wingfield Cricket Doubles Cricket Medley Doubles “B/C” Consolation Al Brewer, Kristine Crawford “C” Flight Michael Lopez, Robert Sanchez Sr. “A/B” Consolation Randy Donahue, Willy Walker “B” Flight Garrett Higa, Brandon Fujinaga Medley Doubles “A” Flight Dario Meza, Tracy Hines “C” Flight Ryan Rallens, Robert Blake “B” Flight Lloyd Munoz, Bret Welday “A” Flight Rob Coldiron, Mark Kershaw “Super” Flight Mark Searle, Paul Lim '01 Medley Doubles '01 Doubles (Thurs. With over 2,000 entries, the tournament was deemed a success paying over $125,000 during the five-day weekend in cash prizes and trophies. This year the events were played in more divisions, creating more equalized and fair competitions. Thursday the early 4-person team events saw 400 players filling the tournament room to compete. Four divisions competed in 501 matches in Men's Pro and Pro AA, Men's B, Women's A and AA, and Women's B divisions. Then on Friday, a Top Gun Challenge took place in Cricket Singles with a single elimination, three out of five competitions in four divisions followed by a Top Gun '01 Triples in two divisions. Blind Draws were also held as time permitted co-sponsored by Arlington Park, Milwaukee Zoo and Bud Light. This fall Arachnid will be starting their 25th Anniversary BullShooter Tour. We are looking forward to a great season with some new and exciting changes for the new anniversary tour. Finals Only - Dress Code All participants in Team Dart XXV must comply with the following dress code during the Finals of all events: • Wear a color and style of team shirt that is matching with sleeves (meaning exact same style, color and logo except for the player’s name). This includes the front and back of the shirts. • Wear pants, capris or shorts that are neat, clean and untorn. No sweatpants are allowed. • Not display inappropriate or foul imprinting on team clothing. • Adhere to all elements of the regular tournament dress code Headgear that is neat, clean and untorn will be allowed. However, in accordance with the laws of the State of Nevada, only players 21 years of age or older can receive prize vouchers on site redeemable at the Main Casino Cage. Participants under 21 years of age will be issued an actual check with proper ID. Please notify the NDA Registration Desk upon picking up your prize money that you are under 21 years old. Scoring on the Electronic Dart Machine Any dart that sticks in the board and registers as a dart thrown but does not score will be corrected. However, a referee must be called to witness the situation and only a referee can make the necessary correction to the score using the back-up feature. Onsite Alternate Rule Onsite alternates can be used by a team as long as the Tournament Committee has approved the change 2 hours prior to the day’s event. An alternate must be from the same league system and meet all the player requirements noted in Player/Team Eligibility. Alternate players must be rated equal to or less than the player they are replacing. It is recommended that possible alternates be submitted, with their statistics, prior to the tournament by your operator to avoid delays. Onsite approval for alternates not already participating in the tournament can be requested by a Charter Holder, with appropriate league statistics, within the time frame noted. For ladies and mixed events, the alternate player must also be of the same gender. No roster changes are allowed in finals. Absolutely no one can serve as an alternate on more than one team per event. Any players on your team roster for that event may be rotated in match-by-match, not between games. Smoking Policy There is no smoking in the Tournament Area and absolutely no smoking during a match as scoresheets should be turned in prior to going to the outside designated smoking areas. There are no exceptions for not being at your board when it is your turn to play and the Scheduling Conflicts and Procedures will be strictly enforced. Darts takes precedence over smoking. Where to Stay… We know that, for many attendees, finding the lowest possible hotel rate is paramount, and we are aware that often people choose to stay at other hotels and then choose to drive or walk to the tournament each day. However, before you book your hotel room for Team Dart XXV, we want to mention the following .... The NDA continues to make every effort to keep costs at a minimum for those attending the Team Dart. One way this is done is to make a commitment to the host hotel for 2010, the Riviera Hotel & Casino that a specified number of hotel rooms will be occupied by our tournament attendees. In exchange for the hotel room occupation, the property provides NDA with complimentary tournament space. There are many benefits of staying at the Riviera and below are just a few! • Save cab fare for more important entertainment! • Reduce the chance of being forfeited for missing your 8:00 a.m. start time • Increase leisure time between matches, go to the pool or to your room! • Receive an additional entry to Win a Chance to Play Darts in Europe • Don’t miss special savings only available to those stay at the Riviera. Watch the NDA Web site for details. Individuals who choose to stay at non-host hotels receive the benefit of the tournament facilities, but do not contribute to the necessary commitments that allow the NDA to use space on a complimentary basis. We ask that you consider this when booking your room. Book your room at $79 per night at http://tinyurl.com/td2010 or by calling 800.634.6753 THROWLINES AUTUMN 2009 — 15 Throwlines:9.09 Throwlines 10/17/09 11:38 AM Page 16 Team Dart Frequently Asked Questions Who can play on my team? We reached out to those players to gather advice for those who are planning to attend or are considering attending Team Dart for the first time. We asked via MySpace and Facebook and received feedback from many players. Carter Heiser from Dickinson, North Dakota, says “don’t be intimidated to go. With all the levels you will be playing other players at your skill level.” One thing we cannot stress enough is that Team Dart is open to all NDA Sanctioned Players of any skill levels. You do not have to come in first or second place to participate in Team Dart. Events are leveled based on your league statistics; therefore, you or your team will play against others of that same skill level. So regardless of your history in league, you have a chance to win at Team Dart. Not only will you win money, but if you come in first through fourth place in any event, any level your photograph will appear in ThrowLines! Carter also recommends booking your hotel room early. The Riviera sells out quickly and by staying at the Riviera you are entitled to many exclusive benefits, see page 15 for details. When making travel reservations plan to arrive early to participate in the Special Blind Draw events including Open, Ladies, Seniors, Mixed and High Rollers on Friday, April 16. Sign-up will be Friday evening M on the tournament floor and events will be randomly drawn to form a Doubles Team. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow darters from around the world! Many players mentioned attitude. Attitude is key to success and in making yours and others experience positive. “Have a positive attitude! Don’t go into it thinking you are going to get beat just because you might be playing somebody good. Remember it’s not who you play its how you play!” said Austin Lucas from Grand Forks, ND. Keep a positive attitude, respect one another and above all have fun! “If you are not having fun, then you should not do it. Always remember that anyone can be beat by anybody at anytime. Also, don’t spend all of you time playing darts, go out and enjoy the strip” mentioned Jim Burkhardt from Valparaiso, NE. Have fun, enjoy Las Vegas and be sure to attend the Player Appreciation Party. This is a great time to mingle with players, dance and play casual darts over cocktails and free beer. The Player Appreciation Party is on Wednesday, April 21 at 8:00p.m. and to celebrate our 25th Anniversary we will be giving away several door prizes. We hope that you will join us at Team Dart XXV as we celebrate our 25th Anniversary. If you have questions regarding Team Dart don’t hesitate to contact the NDA Office at 800.808.9884. Jimmy was well known in Illinois and Iowa not only as a good dart player but also a very good friend to so many players; he participated in many different dart leagues in both states and attended both Illinois and Iowa’s state tournaments. Jim and his team took 1st place in Masters 01 and 2nd in Cricket Masters at the Illinois Team Pool and Dart Tournament in Decatur Illinois October of 2008. In February Jim’s team took 3rd place in the Iowa State Tournament in Waterloo Iowa. Jim also won multiple city championships in Illinois while playing in the Blackhawk Music Company dart leagues. On May 30, 2009 we lost our friend Jim, we will not forget the memories that he created with all of us in the dart world. You will be missed! We will miss your face and that crooked little smile, You will be in our hearts a very long while. You were a man of few words, a quiet guy they might say; But the player’s always knew you were ready to play. With your white hat on you would walk in quiet without any sign; Go directly to the board and start shooting at the line. I would say “Jimmy, you going to play?” You would look at me smile, and say, “If I wasn’t I wouldn’t be here today!” You had been a partner to so many, some your closest friends; everyone knew your friendship was never pretend. You meant the world to so many and we all ask why? It was too soon to say good-bye. The 17th Annual Hartley Amusements League Player Appreciation weekend was held February 20 – 22, 2009. This year’s event was moved to a brand new venue, the Peoria Civic Center, in downtown Peoria, Illinois! League players from all over the State of Illinois converged on the new site and it was time for a weekend of partying, renewing some old friendships and creating some new ones. Players from dart and pool leagues run by Better Amusements in Mattoon, C&H Amusements in Wood River, H&H Amusements and TM-County Amusements in the quad cities and Galesburg areas, Illinois Amusements in Peoria, Twin City Amusements in Bloomington and Triple Star Amusements from Springfield and the surrounding area all came to have a great time and enjoy a wild weekend of fun, camaraderie and friendly competition. This year’s event was once again flighted using the player’s league stats. There were five divisions of open 4-person team play as well as two divisions of women’s 4-person teams. There were four levels of play in each of the Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Mixed Doubles and Mixed Triples as well, allowing more players a chance to compete and win a piece of the prize money! There was the big Friday night blind draw as well as a new addition to the event, a Sunday afternoon $1,000 added blind draw which allowed people to meet new friends from other parts of our great state of Illinois. Many other prizes were awarded including trips to Cancun, Bullshooter XXIV, a big screen TV and lots more! Lest we forget, the two HarleyDavidson motorcycles given away to one lucky dart league player as well as one lucky pool league player! The players love to attend this event because it is an inexpensive weekend of fun and 22—THROWLINES AUTUMN 2009 friendship where they stay at hotels within walking distance of the venue so they can “party like a dart star!” We, at Hartley Amusements, hope everyone had a wonderful time at this event. We hope, as well, that you will tell all your friends and get signed up for our leagues so you will qualify for LPAW 2010, which will once again be held at the Peoria Civic Center on February 19 – 21, 2010. A buffet style polis dinner was served, after which the trophies were presented to the players and bar owners. The top teams in each of the leagues competed in a playoff tournament to determine the league trophy winner. Bar sponsors were awarded a season winners plaque to display the top placing teams from their bar. The players were also awarded individual plaques for their accomplishments. The league champion team members were awarded an embroidered Marroni’s Dart League jacket for their win.
