Recruitment and Training Process The majority of our clinics run during the week Monday-Friday during office hours with only a few taking place at weekends and none in the evenings. If you are not available at the time that the clinic takes place or the clinics closest to you do not need more volunteers at the time of your application then you will not be able to volunteer with us at this time However, with your permission we can keep your contact details on our data base and if a vacancy arises we can contact you to see if you are still interested in volunteering for us. Pre-existing qualifications If you already have an existing qualification which is relevant e.g. Diploma or NVQ or are experienced in this area, you may be able to access our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) route which will recognise your existing qualifications. The Training Manager will consider any RPL status on a case by case basis but all candidates are subject to our Final Assessment before volunteering with us regardless of experience and qualification Interview If you are shortlisted for interview you will be contacted by a member of the Training Team. If you are successful at interview then you will be invited to go to a local clinic to observe an existing practitioner taking a clinic session. Clinic Observation You will be required to visit a clinic and observe up to four, one hour skin camouflage appointments to allow you to learn more about what is involved and to have the chance to meet other volunteers. You will need to allow the best part of a day for this part of your training. This might be at the clinic where you are due to be volunteering, or at another clinic. Prior to you attending this ‘observation clinic’ you will be sent by email a ‘Pre-Course Study Pack’ which you must read through in advance of the training course. The Pre-Course Study Pack contains 4 small study tasks, one of which is to be completed at this clinic observation. The remaining three tasks should be completed prior to attending the 3-Day Training Course. Enough time to complete these tasks should be estimated by you and tasks completed before your arrival on the first day of the training course. Providing that both you and we, are happy to continue to train you after the clinic observation, then you will go forward to the 3 Day Training Course. SCS Skin Camouflage Practitioner Role Profile September 2016 -3- 3 Day Training Course The 3-Day Training Course, is delivered by qualified Changing Faces Skin Camouflage Trainers who are also experienced skin camouflage practitioners. You will be issued with a kit on the course (which remains Changing Faces property) and spend three days learning about our standards of client care, our administrative procedures and how to work with the specialist creams and powders and the different application techniques. On the second day you will meet your Skin Camouflage Coordinator; you will learn how to administrate your clinic and when and how we expect you to engage with us. You will be given an induction of the Support and Advice Service, and you will learn how to reclaim expenses and how to encourage donations from clients. On the third day you will work on up to two clients supported by a qualified trainer. The clients will be aware that this is a training exercise. We will require you to bring your DBS documents to the course so that we can process your police check. Mentoring Following the course, if there are no serious concerns, you will be assigned a mentor who will offer you support and guidance at your mentoring clinics. Mentoring will continue until you have completed 10 clients and both you, and we, feel confident to put you forward for a ‘final assessment’. Final Assessment A qualified Assessor will observe your practice over 2 consultations to ensure you have reached the required level of competency. Given that there are no concerns, you will go on to run clinic sessions independently and receive your qualification certificate. Competency Policy If at final assessment, or at any point throughout your training and mentoring period we have serious concerns about your ability to deliver the service to the required quality level according to our competency criteria, which is documented in the training materials, we will support your further training for a reasonable period of time. If after this you have not reached the required competency level enabling you to deliver the quality of service that we expect from our volunteers, we reserve the right to terminate your volunteering with us. Each circumstance will be reviewed by the Skin Camouflage Management Team on a case by case basis. Note: Please bear in mind that we are a small charity and don’t always have volunteering opportunities immediately available.) Please note that if you are currently having support sessions with a Changing Faces Practitioner you may not volunteer with Changing Faces until after the sessions have ended . If in the future you wish to receive support sessions from a Changing Faces Practitioner, you will be asked to cease your volunteering role for the duration of the sessions.
