This section should describe briefly the objectives and expected outcomes of the project, and should
state the sum of money requested from the Tree Health Scotland Bursary Award Scheme (the scheme).
Project Background and Objectives
This section should briefly describe the nature of the project and the reason(s) why it is needed. If
relevant, the applicant should demonstrate linkages with published national or regional research
priorities. The link with current or future threats to tree health in Scotland should also be clearly stated.
The objectives of the project or the research questions that it addresses should be clearly stated at the
end of this section.
Project Methods
This section should give a detailed account of the work proposed and the resources required to
complete the project. The description should clarify whether field work will be undertaken in Scotland –
and if not, explain why this is the case.
Collaboration
Please give details of any organisations or individuals with whom you are collaborating for the work
proposed in this application (e.g. via provision of sites, data, expertise, supervision)
Project Costs
This section should state the total project cost, the funding confirmed to date and the sources of these
funds and finally the amount requested from the scheme. If studentships extend over more than one
year, then details should be broken down into financial years (April to March). Applicants should note
the limitations of the assistance levels available as specified in the guidance notes available at
www.scottishforestrytrust.org.uk

Project Additionality
This section should demonstrate the need for a contribution from the scheme to the overall studentship
costs. Applicants should state the potential impact of either a reduction in the funding requested from
the scheme or, for multi year projects, any flexibility in the profiling of the scheme's contribution.
Project Outcomes and Benefits
This section should indicate the expected outcomes of the studentship and show how they would benefit
tree health in Scotland, if possible quantifying potential impacts of the proposed research and
explaining the practical application. Applicants should also describe how they plan to publicise the
results of their work and should note the requirements of sections 4.1 and 4.2 of the scheme guidance
notes
Project Risks
This section should assess any risks that might affect delivery of the project. This may include both
technical risks (for example uncertainty surrounding the use of new or relatively untested methods,
failure of field trials in extreme climatic conditions) and risks associated with the support available to
the student during the course of their work should be identified.

This section should provide the evidence required in section 6.1 and 6.2 of the scheme guidance notes.
