First step
Review of insurance market in Peru:
Identify the main elements of the presented case study
Analyze the impact of the first regulation enacted by SBS in 2007.
Analyze the impact of the second regulation enacted by SBS in 2009 and
the regulations on insurance commercialization from 2010.
Review the findings of the microinsurance market diagnosis.
Activity 1: Situation review
Second step: After reviewing the case study, answer the following questions.
Did developing microinsurance require a specific regulation?
How can the regulator foster the development of the microinsurance
market?
What role does financial education play in developing the microinsurance
market?
What factors do you think contributed to accomplishing the outcomes
presented in the Peru case study?
Activity 2: Developing a solution
Possible alternatives: After having reviewed the situation described in the case
study, what actions would you recommend to address the issues?
Define microinsurance in the regulatory framework and the conditions for
commercializing it.
Design a specific process to authorize insurance companies and brokers
operating in the microinsurance market.
Establish a specific process to register model policies and/or standard
policy conditions to ensure compliance with the required simplicity and
transparency for microinsurance.

Identify the role of the relevant market players in view of the actions
recommended in the previous activity.
Role of insurance regulator and supervisor.
