Cost IC0602 International Doctoral School Algorithmic Decision Theory: MCDA and MOO Final report The Cost IC0602 International Doctoral School has taken place, as scheduled, from September 17 to September 21, 2007. It has been hosted in the Centre “Les Masures”, in Han-sur-Lesse, in the Southern part of Belgium. Thirty selected doctoral students, coming from 12 different European and North American countries, stayed in the Centre for one week. During their stay, M. Abdellaoui and M. Ehrgott have delivered a series of lectures focused on two selected topics, namely: Rank-dependent utility: key preference conditions and elicitations, by M. Abdellaoui (CNRS, Paris) Multi-objective optimization – Theory Algorithms, and Applications, by M. Ehrgott (Univ. Auckland and CNRS, Nantes). Twenty five participants, mainly doctoral students in early stages of their research, have been given an opportunity to present their work and receive a feedback. Three additional lectures have been delivered by senior researchers. All lectures, presentations and discussions have been done in English. These activities filled 35 hours of a quite intensive agenda, starting on Monday afternoon up to Friday noon (see detailed schedule and programme in Appendix 1). Announcement of the school and selection of the students. The call for participation was issued in mid May 2007, by e-mail. Fifty applications were received. The budget allowed for sponsoring the sojourn of 25 students, by offering them a discount of 100 € on the fees. Students were selected on the basis of their research interests and background. Priority was given to students coming from countries involved in the COST action and in early stages of their research. Five more advanced students were accepted, without sponsoring; due to time constraints they have not been allowed to present their work. Evaluation. The main goals pursued were: Promote training and research in the field of multiple criteria decision analysis (MCDA) and multi-objective optimization (MOO) Develop contacts and collaboration among researchers in this field. At the end of the school, the participants have been asked to fill an evaluation form. Twenty seven forms were returned. The evaluation addressed three major items: general evaluation, courses and invited speakers, organization. The assessments are quite positive on most aspects. One of the courses has been less appreciated. A break in the middle of the week would have been welcome (excursion). All students agree or strongly agree that they would be willing to attend similar schools during their doctoral studies. Financial aspects Not yet final but balanced. Total cost around 10500 Euros Appendix 1 Schedule of the school (17-21 September 2007) Monday, 17 September Tuesday, 18 September Wednesday, 19 September Thurday, 20 September F 9h00-9h30 9h30-10h00 10h00-10h30 10h30-11h00 11h00-11h30 11h30-12h00 12h00-12h30 12h30-13h00 13h00-13h30 13h30-14h00 14h00-14h30 14h30-15h00 15h00-15h30 15h30-16h00 16h00-16h30 16h30-17h00 17h00-17h30 17h30-18h00 18h00-18h30 18h30-19h00 19h00-19h30 19h30-20h00 20h00-20h30 20h30-21h00 21h00-21h30 Mohammed Abdellaoui (9h00-11h00) 2/4 Mohammed Abdellaoui (9h00-11h00) 3/4 Mohammed Abdellaoui (9h00-11h00) 4/4 Lunch (13h00-14h30) Break Thibaut Lust Brice Mayag Wassila Ouerdane Lunch (13h00-14h30) Break Eda Ersek Julien Jorge Jay Simon Lunch (13h00-14h30) Break Willem Waegeman Hélène Le Cadre Géraldine Bous Lunch (13h00-14h30) Mohammed Abdellaoui (14h30-16h30) 1/4 Matthias Ehrgott (2/5) (14h30-16h30) Matthias Ehrgott (3/5) (14h30-16h30) Matthias Ehrgott (4/5) (14h30-16h30) Break Matthias Ehrgott (1/5) (17h00-19h00) Break Marcin Szelag Juan Henao Piza Klio Lakiotaki Amélie Vrijdags Dinner (19h00-20h30) Break Aurélie Casier Rasmus Nielsen Emilia Tantar Joel Uckelman Dinner (19h00-20h30) Break Michael Rademaker Philippe Nemery Nabila Remli Arnaud Liefooghe Dinner (19h00-20h30) Invited Presentation 1 Jean-Luc Marichal Invited Presentation 2 Vincent Mousseau Belgian Beers Arrival at Han sur Lesse Dinner (19h00-20h30) Belgian Beers In T M (1 B D R J L (1 D List of Participants (Emails have been suppressed in order to reduce spam) Students Layla Géraldine Darius Aurélie Donatas Céline Eda Rita Johanna Sophie Juan Felipe Isabel Julien Klio Hélène Arnaud Joao Carlos Thibault Brice Philippe Rasmus Wassila Michael Nabila Jay Marcin Emilia Joel Amélie Willem Ashoor Bous Braziunas Casier Elvikis Engelbeen Ersek Girao Silva Gold Hautphenne Henao Piza Joao Jorge Lakiotaki Le Cadre Liefooghe Lourenco Lust Mayag Nemery Nielsen Ouerdane Rademaker Remli Simon Szelag Tantar Uckelman Vrijdags Waegeman University of Manchester Faculté Polytechnique de Mons University of Toronto Université Libre de Bruxelles University of Kaiserslautern Université Libre de Bruxelles Faculté Polytechnique de Mons University of Coimbra Université Paris Dauphine Université Libre de Bruxelles Warwick Business School IPL and IST Lisbon Université de Nantes Technical University of Crete ENST Bretagne Lille INRIA Instituto Superior Tecnico Lisbon Faculté Polytechnique de Mons Thalès Group Université Libre de Bruxelles Center Network Planning Aalborg Université Paris Dauphine Universiteit Gent Université Paris Dauphine University California Irvine Poznan University of Technology INRIA Lille University of Amsterdam Universiteit Gent Universiteit Gent Lecturers Mohammed Abdellaoui Mathias Ehrgott France France and New Zealand Invited Speakers Jean-Luc Vincent Thierry Marichal Mousseau Marchant Luxembourg France Belgium Bouyssou Pirlot France Belgium Organizers Denis Marc UK Belgium Canada Belgium Germany Belgium Belgium Portugal France Belgium UK Portugal France Greece France France Portugal Belgium France Belgium Denmark France Belgium France USA Poland France Netherlands Belgium Belgium Lectures Mohammed Abdellaoui (CNRS-GRID, Paris) : Rank-dependent utility: key preference conditions and elicitations Matthias Ehrgott (Univ.
