What do these adverts tell you about boys and girls?
Group ideas: Boys prefer shooting games (Rayaan).
The girls advert tells you they prefer their games not boys’ games (Fatima).
Girls like dressing up and playing with fairies and dolls (Bao Ying). Doll’s houses are for girls and not boys (Tomas). Ubaid: boys like playing
electrical games. Alex: boys like shooting games and the colour green. Muneebah: girls like faries and dolls. Tomas: the doll’s house is for
girls. Sanna: I don’t think boys always have to play with racing cars and stuff. Aisha: I think the doll’s house isn’t just for girls, same with
the cars. Edison: I think shooting games aren’t just for boys. Fatima, Alisha, Moseeb and Riley: Boys would be ashamed of girls stuff. I
think that the girls adverts tells you that they would rather play their games instead of the boys games. Boys would play outdoor games and
remote controlled games. Boys and girls like games such as running or playing with other stuff but adverts only tell you what kind of girl’s
games like castles and boys would play their games. Adverts would show colours that would either be a boys or a girls favourite. Izzy,
Sharzia, Mendy, Roksana: I think it’s not fair because there are no strict barriers about boy and girl toys. Jacob: these adverts tell us that
boys have to play with these games whereas girls play with those toys. Sofia, Tanzeela, Umayr, Rayaan: We think that boys play shooting
games and action because men sometimes go in the army. We think that boys play shooting games because that is what the advert is telling
us. Adverts want to persuade people to buy things and we sometimes fall for things we don’t need.
