Kevin could have scored big, but instead... Kevin makes classic mistake by not following his own advice. Kevin's story - you got to read Last Fall Connexion provided sales training on the Washington National gap plan products. I said, "It all makes sense - you pay a low monthly premium and you get cash if you contract a critical illness - or have an accident. It makes sense to reduce the high outof-pocket costs a higher deductible health plan presents." My wife and I are active so it made sense to purchase an accident policy. I delayed doing this through the ski season and told many that I would purchase a plan prior to soccer season. Well, the first game had barely started and now my season has ended. Lo and behold, while making a save in goal that first game, my hand was crushed by a rival's foot (he did get a red card for it too). I played for a few minutes after the injury had occured, but realized that something major was wrong. What if I'd bought the Accident Assure Policy A trip to the ER ensued (Urgent Care was already closed per my plan's Nurse Hotline) and I received x-rays and a temporary cast. A week later I had a hand specialist asses my injury and today I had surgery to put in a plate and five screws. I've calculated that if I'd bought the Washington National Level 2 plan I had intended (and have told countless producers to sell), I would have received $2,250 from Washington National. Instead, even with my quality employer group coverage, I'll spend at least $1,500 and up to $2,000 out-of-pocket. Never good timing for a costly accident, but of course my wife and I are trying to save money to buy a house and this unforeseen expense has set us back. So, I continue to promote Washington National gap plans. They still make sense and I'm buying an Accident Assure plan this week-- from my coworker since my my writing hand is currently inoperable (and itchy). I hope my personal story will help you sell the need for accident and/or critical illness coverage to your clients. Have a great (and safe) summer.
