Wheel Classic cyclists – our heroes!
Months of training and preparation culminated on the steps of State Parliament House in Melbourne
on 23 September. Nineteen cyclists – of the 40 who participated in the AMP Future2 Wheel Classic
this year – arrived at the end of a challenging 1200 km ride from Sydney to a joyful welcome from
friends, family and well-wishers. As well as fulfilling a personal challenge, the cyclists had the
satisfaction of knowing that their efforts and the support of family, friends, colleagues and corporate
sponsors had raised over $133,000!
If you’re receiving this news update for the first time, it’s probably because we have added the
names of many generous donors to our list. We hope you’ll want to keep in touch with us – but
you do of course have the option to unsubscribe if you wish. Whichever you choose to do, we
extend a heartfelt thanks for your support of this important fundraiser, the bedrock of Future2’s
grants to help disadvantaged young Australians get a better chance at life.

New grants coming next month
It’s been a tough job to filter the 2012 Make the Difference! Grant applications from 42 to 9 – but the
Future2 Grants Committee has now done that and asked the shortlisted candidates to provide
additional information that will help inform the selection of the grant recipients. Future2 trustees will
make the final decision at the end of October and we look forward to announcing the 2012 grant
recipients in the first half of November.
Among the applications this year were four from existing grant recipients, who have applied for
additional funding for an established project or to support a new initiative. These have been put
aside pending trustees’ consideration of the financial position – with the possibility of additional
grants being announced at a later date.
AFL Grand Final is a win for Future2
Thanks to the continuing support of the Melbourne Chapter of the Financial Planning Association,
Future2 added $5,800 to funds on 24 September at the annual AFL Grand Final Lunch at Melbourne’s
Etihad Stadium. Over 600 people gathered for an afternoon of entertainment and socialising. Lured
by the prospect of winning two tickets to the AFA Grand Final, an Apple iPad or a bottle of bubbly, we
raised nearly $2,000 from the sale of raffle tickets and a further $3,800 from silent and open auctions.
Thanks go to Julian Place CFP, Chair of the Melbourne Chapter, and to the National Events team at
the FPA for their unflagging support.
Matrix Planning Solutions & Pathway to showcase Future2
Getting the word out to financial advice professionals about Future2 and our vision to be the heart of
the profession is an on-going challenge. We are making headway and the help of licensees like Matrix
Planning Solutions and Pathway is invaluable. Matrix has offered Future2 a platform at its upcoming
National Conference on 12 November and Pathway has invited Future2 to speak at professional
development days in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
We’ll be highlighting our grants program, whose purpose is to make a lasting difference in the lives of
those who need it most – disadvantaged young Australians. Advisers will be encouraged to find local
community organisations with eligible programs and support their grant applications. The 2013 grant
round will open next April.
