Math Blog Oct. 7th – Oct. 11th 6th Grade Math We are now officially done with our first chapter and beginning our second chapter, “Fraction and Decimal Operations.” Monday: Today we focused on Science. No Math Lesson or Homework. Tuesday: 2.1 “Adding and Subtracting Fractions.” We are going to learn how to add and subtract fractions that contain common denominators.” Homework will be assigned. Wednesday: 2.2 “Using Common Denominator.” Students will learn how to add and subtract fractions that need a common denominator. Homework will be assigned. Thursday: 2.3 “Adding and Subtracting Mixed Numbers.” Students will learn how to add and subtract mixed numbers that require a common denominator. Friday: Weekly Quiz (2.1- 2.3) 7th Grade Pre-Algebra We are now officially done with our first chapter and beginning our second chapter, “Rational Number Operations.” Monday: No Class today due to School Mass. No homework assigned. Tuesday: 2.1 “Simplifying Fractions.” Students will learn how to put fractions into simplest form using the greatest common factors. Homework will be assigned. Wednesday: 2.2 “Comparing Fractions and Mixed Numbers.” Students will turn the fractions into decimals and compare their values. Homework will be assigned. Thursday: 2.3/ 2.4 “Adding and Subtracting Fractions,” and “Using a Common Denominator,” Lesson 2.3 is very basic adding and subtracting fractions with a common denominator so I will be combining it with 2.4 adding and subtracting fractions. 2.4 will require the students to calculate the common denominator. Homework will be assigned. Friday: Weekly Quiz (2.1-2.4) 8th Algebra Monday: 2.5 “Apply the Distributive Property.” We continued our lesson from last Friday on the Distributive Property.” Homework was assigned. Tuesday: 2.6 “Divide Real Numbers.” This is a very basic lesson that requires students to divide negative integers. The rule is the same as multiplying negative integers. “Same Signs,” produces a positive answer. “Different Signs,” produces a negative answer. Homework will be assigned. Wednesday: 2.7 “Find Square Roots and Compare Real Numbers.” This is a difficult lesson. I will be dividing it up into two days, unless the students display mastery after day one. Homework will be assigned. Thursday: 2.7 continued unless I make the adjustment. In that case we will move to 2.8 “Use Properties of Real Numbers and Logical Reasoning.” Friday: Weekly Quiz to prepare for exam next week.
