Information for patients Information following clinical gastric band de-fill Sheffield Centre for Weight Loss Surgery Royal Hallamshire Hospital Patient's name ……………………………………........………… Hospital number ………………………… Date ………………………… You have had de-filling of your gastric band and should not experience any serious side effects. You may experience some mild discomfort around your port site; this is not unusual and is nothing to worry about. For the first 48 hours following your procedure, you should take only fluids/pureed diet orally. After the first 48 hours you can then begin to work through the dietary stages as advised previously after your initial operation. If you find you can build up to half a tea plate of pureed food without any pain or vomiting, you can then begin to increase the texture of your food, as in the dietary booklet. These restrictions are recommended so that your stomach can settle down following your period of being unwell. If you are still unable to tolerate fluids and/or a pureed diet and your symptoms which warranted your band de-fill do not settle; please contact us on: 0114 226 9083 Follow up appointment A barium swallow test will be arranged for you in the X-ray department. This is to check the position of your gastric band. You will also be reviewed by a member of the weight loss surgery team, in the outpatient clinic, in 4 weeks time to assess your progress.
