History, Background
• Opened April 20th, 1912. (101 years old)
• Took about 1 year to construct the 27,000 (at the
time) seated ballpark.
• To this date, it is the oldest Major League
Baseball stadium, located in Boston,
Massachusetts.
• Home of the Boston Red Sox.
• Second lowest seating capacity in all of Major
League Baseball stadiums.

• Dimensions include 315ft to the left field foul
pole, 379ft to the left-center gap, 389ft to the
center field fence, 420ft to the ‘deep’ right-center
(triangle) gap, 380ft to the right-center gap, and
302ft to the right field foul pole.
• Area of fair territory is around 99,000 square
feet.
• Total square footage is around 365,000.
Outdoor/Indoor Special Facilities
• 37 foot wall in left field known as “The Green Monster.”
Seats were added to the top of the wall during the 200203 offseason.
• The wall is named after the mascot, Wally the Green
Monster.
• The wall also acts as a manual scoreboard based on Red
Sox tradition.
• Updated luxury skybox seating, as well as updated
concessions as of 2011.
• Stretch of 24 bars wrapped around the outside of the
stadium.
• Updated locker room and indoor clubhouse batting
cages as of 2011.
Interesting Facts
• Right field foul pole is known as the Pesky Pole,
named after former Red Sox standout John
Pesky.
• Total of 8 world series championships, appeared
in 12 total.
• 37 foot left field wall known as “The Green
Monster.”

Justification
• I chose this unique ball park simply because the
Red Sox have been my favorite MLB team since I
was playing tee ball at the age of 3. Also, I hope
to some day be able to work for the Boston Red
Sox for either a marketing position or in the
front office.
