He played for the USSR at the 1977 and 1978 World Junior Championships. He went on to play several years with the Central Red Army and won a host of domestic titles and toured North America in six Super Series. The crafty blueliner also played at the 1979 Challenge Cup, five World Championships, three Olympics (2 gold medals and 1 silver medal) and the 1984 Canada Cup. Sergei was drafted 152nd overall by the NJ Devils in 1989. He played 16 games for the New Jersey Devils in 1989-90 wearing jersey #4 and played for the San Diego Gulls of the IHL for the following 2 seasons. Over the last several years, Sergei has coached at various local high school and travel hockey programs as well as several hockey camps.
