Gospel Meeting Concludes Today

treated us to a feast of God’s word. We thank God
for the blessings of knowledge our good brother has
shared with us. We wish him a safe journey home as
he leaves us tomorrow.

Brethren there are many who believe peer pressure is
simply something some teenagers experience. However, peer
pressure is common in all age groups, educational, and
economic sectors of society. Peer pressure is allowing one’s
peers or equals to influence, often to the point of control.
Studies with alarming results have been done that reveal cases
of peer or authority type situations influencing against the
moral conviction of the one so controlled, even to the degree
of physically harming another.
We find in the bible the example of Barnabas. He was
no doubt an outstanding Christian and preacher (Acts 4:34-37,
13:1-4). Paul mentioned a case regarding which Peter sinned
and Paul had to publicly rebuke him (Galatians 2:11-12).
Peter's sinful conduct influenced others. "And the rest of the
Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even
Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy" (Galatians
2:13). No one is void of this terrible experience peer pressure.
Peer pressure is prohibited to be a part of the Christian
life. Under the Law of Moses, the following prohibition was
issued: "You shall not follow a crowd to do evil..." (Exodus
23:2). We need to understand that great harm is done and
many opportunities for good go wasted because of the
excessive desire to please others and receive their acceptance.
Paul wrote, "Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good
habits" (I Corinthians 15:33). We are told that "among the
rulers many believed in Him; but because of the Pharisees
they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the
synagogue" (John 12:42). It give us the reason for their
problem in verse 43 "for they loved the praise of men more
than the praise of God.” That is Peer Pressure.
Paul wrote these words, "For do I now persuade men,
or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men,
I would not be a bondservant of Christ" (Galatians 1:10). Let
each of us young or old have the strength and control to say
the simple word, "NO" when necessary (Hebrews 11:24-25).
