Two Free Ride Days on MTR for Senior Citizens to enjoy Double Happiness
Senior citizens will enjoy two days of free travel on the MTR this weekend! To support Senior
Citizen’s Day on 20 November 2016 (Sunday), the MTR Corporation is pleased to offer free
rides on all MTR journeys1 to Elder Octopus cardholders aged 65 or above. Together with a
special free ride day for the elderly on 19 November 2016 (Saturday) under the “Happy
Birthday‧Happy Journey” programme unveiled earlier this year, Elder Octopus cardholders
will be able to travel on the MTR network1 for free for two consecutive days.
“Senior citizens have contributed a lot to Hong Kong’s prosperity over the years. We are,
therefore, very pleased to support Senior Citizen’s Day to show our respect for them,” said Ms
Linda So, Corporate Affairs Director of MTR Corporation. “As announced in March, we
acknowledge that some senior citizens might not be able to participate in our ‘Happy
Birthday‧Happy Journey’ programme because their birth dates had not been printed on
their Hong Kong Identity Cards. We are pleased to offer an additional day of free rides to all
elders on 19 November, one day prior to the Senior Citizen’s Day, so that they too can share
the joy which this programme brings.”
“We hope these two days of free rides can encourage more senior citizens to participate in
community activities or visit their family and friends. During their journeys on the MTR, they
can always approach our station colleagues in case they need any assistance,” added Ms So.
To enjoy the free rides on the MTR on 19 and 20 November, Elder Octopus cardholders can
simply enter and exit ticket gates in the MTR1 with their cards. No fares will be deducted. For
details, please call the MTR hotline at 2881 8888.
