2017 USA TAEKWONDO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
WORLD CHAMPION TAEKWONDO
COMPETITION TEAM QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES & RULES
To WCT Parents & Athletes:
As captain of the 2017 World Champion Taekwondo Competition Team, I would like to thank you for your
support and contributions.
This year, we experienced great success at the 2016 National Championships held in Richmond, VA. We
brought home 49 medals! This is quite an achievement, and our students learned and experienced so much from
their performances, and from competing alongside so many talented athletes from all over the US.
Our success is due to YOU as parents and athletes, and your faith in all the masters. Thank you for trusting us to
prepare your children to compete at the national level. We ask for this continued support and faith in the masters
as we head towards the 2017 National Championships. Through the combined trust and bond between the
masters, parents, and students, we will bring your children to reach their highest potential.
In the coming year, I also offer a huge welcome to all new parents and athletes that are interested in the
upcoming 2017 National Championships. I encourage everybody, whether color belt or black belt, to participate
in this such prestigious event. It is my true belief that color belt students can benefit most from this competition,
and I hope to increase the number of color belt competitors in this year’s competition. I hope you will help join
me in accomplishing this goal.
Please refer to the attached packet to understand all rules that have been set forth by World Champion
Taekwondo and USA Taekwondo in order to qualify for the 2017 National Championships. Please direct any
questions you have to Amar Sinha at [email protected].
Thank you,
Master Sangpil Kim

Continuation of Step III of Qualification Process Guidelines
For all athletes in Non World Class or Color Belt divisions, it is possible to join the WCT competition team
without placing a medal in March if the athlete has completed 6 months of training. However, the 6 months of
training does not guarantee a spot. One month after the March qualifier there will be Selection Proceedings at
which athletes will need to perform once more to try and show that they have prepared for the national level of
competition. It is after these proceedings that one may be selected after having not medaled in March.
