POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Media Officer is part of the Communications unit within the Sales, Marketing and
Corporate Affairs branch. The position reports to the Communications Manager on a day-today basis, but also works closely with the Director Sales, Marketing and Corporate Affairs for
approval of media responses. The Senior Media Officer is responsible for all ActewAGL
media management and supports the Communications Manager with ensuring that all crisis
communications is reviewed annually.
Your duty to your employer includes an obligation to carry out your work in a way that does

responsibility to provide suitable training and to make you aware of the legal obligations
relevant to your work.
Under the ActewAGL Always Safe system, this position is required to participate fully in all
aspects of health, safety and environment management within ActewAGL, including risk
assessment, hazard identification and control and incident reporting.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
 Manage the organisations 24-hour media phone and arrange responses to all media
enquiries. This will involve work after hours and on weekends. The weekend on-call roster
will alternate.
 Manage the Media Monitors agreement and ensure officers remain trained on any changes
to the media clips process.
 Coordinate the distribution of the daily media clips – as per the rotating roster.
 Issue SMS alerts to relevant executive about media coverage.
 Develop and implement media strategies, including writing, distributing and following up
media releases and editorial. This will include updating media lists as required.
 Coordinate media events, including the development of speaking notes, running sheet and
media kits.
 Prepare content for social media channels and work with the Senior Social Media Officer
to assist with the delivery of ActewAGL’s social media strategy.
 Assist the Communications Manager with corporate projects and campaigns.
 Coordinate other writing tasks as required, such as fact sheets, brochures, letters,
presentations and speeches and secure the necessary approvals.
 Conduct an annual review of all crisis communications.
 Act as the coordinator for the branch’s business continuity plan, which involves ensuring
all processes are up-to-date and that the plan is tested and evaluated quarterly.
 Preparation of crisis communications and participation in simulations.
 Coordinate actions associated with major infrastructure projects on an as required basis.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
 Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, plus three years experience in media,
communications or public relations.
 Experience in developing and evaluating media, issue management, and communications
or public relations strategies.
 Experience in developing responses to media enquiries and liaising with local and regional
media outlets.
 Experience in managing and enforcing style guidelines, along with highly developed
copywriting and editing skills.
 Experience in managing media, projects and campaigns.
 Experience in working on concurrent projects with time-critical deadlines.
 Solid teamwork, liaison and interpersonal skills.
 Sound writing and editing skills, and experience in writing and editing copy for a range of
audiences.
 Demonstrated ability to consistently display commitment to high quality customer service
practices.
 Skills in PC-based computer systems including word processing.
 Current ACT Class CA or equivalent driver’s licence.
