Basic: Classroom vocabulary – week 9 Unit Objective: Students will be able to identify classroom vocabulary, express plurals using there is/there are, ask for a classroom object, correctly use prepositions of location and write about their classroom. Vocabulary: pencil, pen, notebook, eraser, table, chair, window, pencil sharpener, door, board, book, clock, map, calendar, tape, paper, desk, stapler, scissors, class, teacher, students Monday Lesson Objectives: Review last week’s objectives as appropriate Identify and label classroom objects Recognize and use “What’s” with appropriate demonstrative pronoun (this/here) and (that/over there) Materials Story (T-made) Index cards (ask the coordinator) Survival English – pg 35 Activity Ideas: Vocabulary Introduction: Elicit what things are in the class by asking that is this? What is that? Teach Ss to answer: “It’s a_______.” Point to each object: pencil, pen, notebook, eraser, table, chair, window, pencil sharpener, door, board, book, clock, map, calendar, tape, paper, desk, stapler, scissors Object label: Split into teams and have them write the names on cards and tape them to objects. Label and Color: Students write the word with the picture (Survival English pg 35). After, T gives various oral cues using colored pencils, “Color the eraser yellow. Color the door red.” Tuesday Lesson Objectives: Review Monday’s objectives as appropriate. Use ending –s to form plurals of classroom objects Use there’s/there are appropriately Materials Picture (Ventures, pg 18) Activity Ideas: Picture Writing: Using the picture (Ventures 18), talk as a class about how many of each thing pictured in the classroom. Write sentences together using there is/there are. Speaking practice: A: Excuse me. I need a _________, please. B: Ok. Here you go. A: Thank you very much. B: You're welcome. Wednesday Lesson Objectives: Materials Review Tuesday’s objectives as appropriate. Recognize prepositions of location (in, on, next to, between, over, under) Survival English – pg 37 – 38 Index cards Activity Ideas: Prepositions of Location– Using a chair and a book, T demonstrates all of the prepositions of location. Then, T gives commands using students (“Faduma is next to Juan”) and students move accordingly. T can also give commands using classroom objects (“Put your pencil under your notebook”). Have a vocal student give commands if time remains. Flashcards – Ss create flashcards for each word. T demonstrates with the chair and book; Ss hold up the corresponding pronoun flashcard. Worksheet – Ss complete preposition worksheet - SE – 37 – 38 Dictation: pen, book, map. There are students in class. Thursday Lesson Objectives: Materials Review Wednesday’s objectives as appropriate. Write sentences describing objects in the classroom Writing prompt sheet (see below) Activity Ideas: Time Writing – T models writing sentences about things in the classroom using there is/there are. Fast finishers should write many sentences; low-level students can write words or phrases.
