Background:
The Coach Black Athletic Scholarship was established in 2006 by the family
and friends of Diane L. Black to honor her life and work. Diane built the first
Lee’s Summit High School girls’ cross-country team in 1976. She continued to
coach cross-country, tennis and cheerleading at Lee Summit high School until
her retirement in 1991. After her retirement, she tutored homebound students
for more than a decade. Diane received numerous honors and awards for her
role as a coach including: the Lee's Summit School District, Cross-Country
Coach of the Year in1984 and the Missouri – All Metro Coach of the Year by
the Greater Kansas City Area Cross-Country Association in 1987. The
friendships Diane built with her athletes were very important to her. She
nurtured and maintained those relationships for the remainder of her life.
Purpose:
The Coach Diane Black Athletic Scholarship was established to provide
financial support to a Lee’s Summit High School graduating female pursuing
continued education at an accredited college or university.

Scholarship Payment: The Scholarship will be made by a Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation
check payable jointly to the recipient and his or her choice of a higher
learning institution. To receive the scholarship check, recipient must send
proof of enrollment to Sheryl Franke, 301 NE Tudor Road, Lee's Summit, MO
64086.
