A few simple messages to
keep us safe
Nottinghamshire County Council
Drivers of cars have lots to look out for when
they are driving:
• Busy junctions or
roundabouts
• Cyclists and
pedestrians
• Road works
• Checking road signs
So, they don’t need distractions from passengers
In Car Safety
So, hands up please if you have ever:
• Argued with your brother or
sister in the car
• Kicked the back of the
drivers seat
• Changed the music or radio
station
• Complained because you
are bored
• Unfastened your seatbelt whilst the car is moving
• Opened the windows without permission

We can help to prevent boredom ?
• Play I Spy, or
• Rock Paper Scissors
• Take a book to read
• Play electronic games
or listen to music

How can we help? - 2
• We should always wear our seatbelts, even
if it’s only a short journey
• You will also help the driver if you check that
other people in the car are wearing theirs

How can we help? - 3
We shouldn’t touch any controls without
the drivers permission.
This includes:
• The heating
• Windows
• The radio, or whatever music is playing

How can we help? - 4
• Drivers should never use a hand held mobile
phone, but if the drivers phone does ring you can
answer it for them.
• The best thing to do is tell the
caller that the driver will call
back later, when you’ve
stopped
• It’s safer not to relay a conversation as this will
still distract the driver
