Meeting 2 of MUISS General Meeting was held at 6:10 p.m. on the 09 of March, 2017 in
MUISS Lounge, Campus Centre

2. Acknowledgement of traditional owner of land
This MGM acknowledges and pays respect to the people of the Kulin nations as the original
and ongoing owners and custodians of this land. The MUISS commits itself to actively fight
alongside Indigenous people for reconciliation and justice for all Indigenous Australians.

Confirmation of Agenda Order:
1. MUISS Banner
Jason Nguyen (The president) said he would like to have a banner hanged in front of
the window. It was discussed by the committee that it would block out the natural
light and instead it would be better to hang it on the outside foyer railing to make it
visible to people walking by the area. There were also suggestions of having signs
giving direction to the MUISS lounge. The budget and design has not been finalized
2. Updates on Committee T-shirts
According to Audrey Miranda Prasetya (Publication Officer) Design of the T-shirt
have been confirmed with supplier, currently we are waiting for the invoice and the
delivery.
3. Committee Photos
The committee photo session took place last Sunday (05/03/2017).
Watermarks has been added to all photos and it is currently stored in the executive
drive under the publication folder. It was brought up also that the photo board would
be redecorated to draw more attention.
4. Summer-Fest Updates
Summer fest will be held on 13th to 19th of March. According to CCD’s current
information, they would like MUISS’s booth to be set up by 3:30 p.m. and the event will
start on 4:00 p.m.. Audrey Miranda Prasetya (Publication Officer) have promotional all
designs ready from official CCD. According to Kay Peng Lau (Activities Officer), there
would be 2 games ongoing during the event, which are Geo Challenge game and
Foodie game. The Foodie game would have around 10 Questions and it would have
the rewards for those whom participated chocolate or candy bar, while for those
whom won would be entered into a raffle for free movie tickets. The total amount of
tickets available to be won would be 10 tickets. The volunteers participating in the
booth would be finalized at Saturday, March, 11, 2017.

5. Committee Training
Committee Training took place between 4th and 5th of March, 2017. An
evaluation survey has been posted on to the committee page for members to complete,
we will ask for general comments from the committee.
6. Tracking your volunteering hours
Queenie Chung (General Secretary) have created a google spreadsheets for
tracking volunteering hours for all general committee members. According to Stefanie
Maccar (MSA: Volunteer Coordinator) 1 points will be given to general committee
per hour of participation. General committee members will be responsible for tracking
their own hour, base on the template General Secretary have created and at the end of
each semester it will be submitted to General Secretary for cross check. Each member
has a minimum amount of 20 hours participation.
7. PLACE Workshops
PLACE Workshops will take place on 15th of March, from 6:30p.m., in
MUISS lounge. Sudihir Mandarapu (Education Officer) mentioned that the first
workshop would be about “Resume Writing” and presenter of the event would
Valentina Mickovski from the Monash Career Connect. Future workshops would be
respectively “Interview Skills”, “Socializing in work place” and “Small Talk with
boss” which will be provided by English Connect. The event expect a total of 25
participants, up until the occurance of meeting, there are already 9 people who have
sign up.
8. Education: Study Session + Booklets
Sudhir Mandarapu (Education Officer) suggest that MUISS should offer
faculty base study session and faculty base booklets. During the meeting, the whole
committee was divided into their respective faculties and discussed the problems they
had faced, such as plagiarism, assignments and etc. These ideas then passed on to the
Education Portfolio to process, and to create study guide, tips and information kit.

9. ICC training
ICC training will take place on the upcoming Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30
p.m. the venue is to be confirm. However, Queenie Chung (Genreal Secretary) would
like to remind all members that you must complete the online course (Except section
5) before the training take place. The venue of training has been confirmed and it will
take place at 29, Ancro Imparo Walk, Tute 36.
10. Monash Campus Service Training
As representatives of International Students of Monash University, it is very
important for us to know the services that are provided around campus. Faye Guo
(Services and Welfare Officer) have organised a workshop with CCD regarding the
services that are provided around campus on 16th of March (The next MGM), it would
be a 1 hour training session and Wendy Blactstock (CCD) would be delivering the
training session.
11. Queer 101 training
The MUISS committee acknowledge the importance of an inclusive
community and have organised the Queer 101 workshops with CCD (Diversity and
Inclusion). Kay Peng Lau (Activities Officer) had said that there wasn’t enough space
for all those whom are participating to be set into a single room, as a result an
alternative was for it to held during the weekend or afterhours (5pm-8pm).
12. Radio Monash
Corey from Radio Monash have contacted Joy Lau (Activities Officer)
regarding a session for International Student. A popular idea was given be Astika
Saxena (Treasurer Officer) to run a program regarding global news and MUISS’s take
on it. Another idea was given by Queenie Pui Kwan Chung (General Secretary
Officer) to run a program regarding K-pop gossip and music. An idea that was
suggested by Akshita Bhatia (General Committee member) was we could create a
segment to discuss international students point of view regarding different current
event. However the time of the session given to International Students are yet to be
finalised.
13. One World Festival Planning Progress

The date for One World Festival is set on the 27th of April, 2017 (Thursday)
11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and theme will be: Backpackers. Kay Peng Lau (Activities
officer) mentioned that the key aspect of this would be giving out sashes for people to
collect badge/pins from all the different booths, relating back to the theme of
backpackers. This badge would be easily produced with the help of the MSA’s badge
maker, requiring only designs from the publications. One of the key things discussed
was regarding the venue whether it be the Lemon Scented lawn or the campus centre,
due to the concern of having rain during the event. Kay Peng Lau (Activities Officer)
had also quoted a rough budget of $6000 (excluding furniture), this was a concern as
it might go over the allocated budget.
14. Student Advisory Group Meeting
The Student Advisory Group Meeting will be held on 10th of March, 2017
(Friday) from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at MU-OLT YIAGA meeting room C3.18,
Caulfield Campus. According to MSA regulation MUISS can select a student
representative to attend the meeting on the behalf of MUISS and the international
student body. Jason An Binh Nguyen (President) stated that he would be able to come
on Friday and requested a change of date. He had also requested that a member of the
Education portfolio join the meeting as it be beneficial towards understand further
regarding the problems being faced.
15. The next Monash Student Council (MSC) meeting
The next Monash Student Council (MSC) meeting will take place on the 30th of
March, 2017 (Thursday). Jason An Binh Nguyen (President) had stated that he is
unable to come to the meeting, thus Queenie Pui Kwan Chung (General Secretary
Officer) had been in elected as the president’s proxy due to his unavailability. Jason
An Binh Nguyen (President) states if any members have any items that they would
like to be bought up in the next MSC please let the executives know.
3. Next Meeting
The next meeting of MUISS will be on 16th of March, 2017
