WE HAVE BEEN CHALLENGED - IN A NICE WAY 
The Junior Football Division (Junior Predators) have challenged us to a Facebook duel - to be the first Division to reach
200 likes on Facebook and we are sooooo close!! We only have 6 ‘Likes’ to go. As well as getting to the magic 200 likes
first, our Facebook page will keep you informed with everything about Netball and will act as a reminder about
important upcoming events. We also celebrate all our player birthdays and you will broaden your general knowledge
with our ‘Freaky Fact of the Day’. Search for United Starz Netball Club.
WE ARE OFF AND RUNNING
What a fabulous, HOT autumn day to open the 2014 PRNA Winter Season. Fantastic to see so many Starz (216) taking
the courts full of enthusiasm and smiles. It was a very hot day and probably the next few rounds will be hot as well. A
few of the players struggled with the heat and their fitness levels on Saturday. Please ensure that the girls start
hydrating from Thursday, and to maintain their fluid levels until after the game – this is very important for the health
and safety of all our players.
PRNA FIXTURE LADDER IS UP AND RUNNING
Under the new MyNetball software being used by PRNA the ladder is already up and running. As PRNA are currently
setting up their new website, their old website is not showing the ladder. The most direct way to access this is to go to
OUR website and click on the ‘PRNA Season 2014 Ladder’ it will take you directly to the ladder on their new PRNA
website.
TAKE THE TIME TO THANK YOUR UMPIRES
The wonderful team of umpires (from all clubs) allows us to play – NO Umpires = NO Netball. We ask that our Starz
players and families remember that our Umpires are out there doing their very best. Umpires will make mistakes – just
as our players make mistakes. Could all our scorers and players please thank the umpires at the end of the game and
if you have had great Umpires can you take the time to go up to the Umpires Desk and let them know – it will be a
pleasant surprise for the Umpiring Officials to receive some positive feedback.

UNIFORM THANK YOU
Contact: Vanessa Maibach at [email protected]
Vanessa and Leigh-Anne would like to say ‘thank you’ for the patience and understanding that everyone has shown
with the uniforms. It was great to see everyone lending, borrowing and chasing up uniforms to make sure all our
players took the court in the dress on Saturday. What a great example of Starz Spirit.
Late Friday night PRNA advised that they have reviewed the uniform policy for Rounds 1-5, and that only the players
without uniform need to wear the black pants and a white t-shirt. Everyone else can wear their uniform. This could
affect a teams as we have a few more players joining this week.
LAST CALL FOR UNIFORM ORDERS
Contact: Vanessa Maibach at [email protected]
Taking into account the lead time to make the orders ‘The Last 2014 Season Orders’ for any last minute on-court
uniform (dresses or pants); winter items (hoodies and jackets); as well as polo shirts need to be emailed through to
Vanessa at the above email address by 12.00 MIDDAY ON MONDAY 24 MARCH. This will hopefully ensure orders
will be ready by late April/early May.
Our supporter gear is available throughout the season.
We are currently looking into introducing gear bags, back packs and training shirts to our line. Once the design and
cost has been finalised we will let you know. Watch this space.
TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Our Website in Photo Gallery
This week we spotlight 3 of our teams 11B Shimmer, 12A Capricorn and Div 6 Centauri. David will upload some great
photos and also the answers to the fun questions the teams were given.
It is a great idea to visit our website at least once each week to check out the photos and just to see what is happening.
MATCH REPORTS
This part of the newsletter will turn into our weekly Match Report section where our Coaches will write up a short
review of the game. You will also find your opposition and court details for the next round.

What a wonderful way to start our netball season. Jade and Lilita were outstanding in defense, working really hard to
get lots of intercepts. Kasey and Shannae were our superstars of the mid-court, they never stopped working to get the
ball. Amy amazed us with her swag of 4 goals. Mykaela, Kianna and Holly were dazzling us with their skills,
intercepting, scoring goals and passing the ball around. All the Twinkles were showing us wonderful teamwork. I am
very proud of all the Twinkle girls, they were shining brightly. Well done girls.

Saturday was the first match that we played together as a team. The girls played very well and were improving as the
game went on. They won the game against the Dayboro Rainbows. The girls were great when they were on defence
and always picked up the loose balls and got many intercepts. Great game girls I am looking forward to seeing you
improve as the season goes on.

First game of the season and first game as a team and we are so proud of the girls. We had no reserves and needed to
borrow but that didn't stop them from trying their hardest. United Sparklers played Blues Jellyfish and we had a good
win. The girls all played a great game - passing well and moving around the court, helped in their success. Thank you
to Holly from Under 9s who stepped up to help us out and played a great game.

The very first game of the season was played on one of the hottest days of the year (or maybe that is just what it felt
like). The first game is always challenging because the team has to get to know each other again and relearn the skills
of netball as they haven’t played together for 6 months. In saying that, United Cometz played exceptionally well in their
first game. There were some amazing intercepts from the defence end and the linking up through the defence to the
attack from the centre court was good. Shooting was accurate – so I couldn’t really ask for more at this stage of the
season. Cometz won convincingly in the end. I can’t wait for the rest of the season. Bring it on!!!

Our first game of the season and you should all be very proud. Everyone listened to what I had to say during the
quarters and took it onto the court and used it. We just need to remember our nice strong passes and be in front of our
opposition as our passes just weren't making it to our team mates. Great work to Layla and Chloe K for their first game.
Hope to see everyone at training on Wednesday at 5:30-6:30 :)

What a remarkable start to the season for the Capricorn girls. You would not think this was our first game of the
season. Each girl today deserves a well earned pat on the back, everyone putting in a fine performance to bring home
the win. The ball flowed down the court with ease at times due to some great drives to space and good directed
passes. We definitely found some momentum in our play and were able to capitalise on these opportunities.
We had some great combinations on show today, our mid court link ups in Courtney B, Courtney W and Maddy
provided some great passages of play and great feeds into the circle. Our shooters, Caitlin G, Megan and Mia controlled
the circle well and put some amazing shots up today. Our defenders, Caitlyn, Isabel, Lily and Courtney W worked
hard in the circle to keep the oppositions score to a minimum. Some great intercepts and controlled ball work created
some awesome turnovers.
I was a very proud coach today, it was a pleasure to watch the girls enjoy their netball, see the friendships form, to show
strength, commitment and still have fun.
Of course there are many things to work on, so listen at training, take it all in and watch your netball improve. Well
done on a great win. Kim

Welcome to 2014 season of our great sport of netball. Our Eclipse Girls to look to the court with their United Spirit
shining bright. Not once during the game did it falter. All of you played well throughout the game even when you
were playing positions that you don't normally play. Lana, Mel and Mikki certainly put you through your paces and
you all shone. Even though the result did not go our way you all played well and paved the way for the rest of the
season of quality netball. Great job girls. Look forward to next week's game. Thank you to you all.

Our first game is under our belts now and we can learn a lot from this loss. We now have to work on our main positions
(cause I did try a few different combinations) to make the best combos for the team. We really need to work as a team
as there was not much team playing but lots of individual plays.
We need to look at our team members and make sure we are making the best moves for the team. This will become
easier after a few more training sessions and more games. Girls we also need to look at our passing and perhaps get a
little more aggressive towards the ball. Over all I can see us becoming much more together as a team once we get to
know each other.

Well done for surviving the first game of the season and especially in the extremely hot conditions. We began the first
quarter quite slow, but by the fourth quarter we had picked up and were fighting back, watching from the sideline you
definitely could see the improvement coming through. As a team we have some things to work on, but overall
considering we have only had one training session together as a team I was happy with the efforts from each of
you. Congratulations to Nikayla for never giving up during your first ever official netball game, you were great, just
remember don't be so hard on yourself, it's okay to make mistakes. Thank you also to Niki (Alice's mum) for scoring.

Was it the heat or were we on fire. What a start to the season. The girls did well to pull together as a team and to come
from behind to take the win was impressive. I was impressed with the amount of ball we turned over when the situation
got tight. I made some adjustments to the team and was impressed with the performance of people playing outside
their comfort zone. So for those that missed us perform on Saturday, you can catch us doing our thing again this
week. Great win girls.

What a great match up today, coming up against our own in Glimmer. The game was very even throughout with a 10
all scoreline at half time. This showed the closeness of the game making for a nail biter right to the end. We definitely
showed we have what it takes to bring home a win, so heads up girls, and congratulations to Glimmer. First game
today as a team showed some good signs and we now can work on some different strategies and positional plays. See
you all at training. Kim

What a first game girls and came out with a win. Everyone played really well even though it’s still hot. Little Linda and
her energy as C, Estella & Erin awesome defence the 2x Jodie’s popping those goals and Bec & Mel running the midcourt.
Erin went down with an ankle injury, but she is all good now. Jodie M stepped up to go into defence and played
fantastic, & Grace had those goals still going with Jodie R. We play so well as a team and learning tactics to getting the
other team out the way and miss their shots. It was a fun game with a friendly opposition. Well Done Capella, see you

With a few training sessions under their belt, Centauri were ready to face off with the Ace Leopoards. Unfortunately
we were defeated, however Centauri have crafted a reputation as the "fun team" in Div 6.
The first half allowed us to shake the nerves and get used to playing as a team. By the second half of the game we pulled
it together and had some great defence and attack combinations. Di's famous woohoo's echoed throughout the court.
At full time Centauri were exhausted but with big smiles were already looking forward to next weeks’ game.
