The winning ticket bonus for selling a $1,000 a day winning ticket is $10,000 and the bonus for selling a $25,000 a year for life winning ticket is $5,000. Players choose (or quick pick) 5 out of 48 numbers, plus 1 number out of 18 for the “Lucky Ball.” Drawings will be held on Mondays and Thursdays at 9:38 p.m. Sales cutoff at retail is 8:10 p.m. on drawing days. Lucky for Life retailer incentive More than $100,000 in cash & gift cards up for grabs What’s better than winning once? Winning for life! With the popularity of “win for life” type scratch games in the past, the Lucky for Life lotto game is expected to be a huge hit among Minnesota players. Try maximizing exposure of the game through the following: Display the Lucky for Life point of purchase materials in high-traffic areas. The brochures, register stand insert, counter stickers, two-sided window sticker and the two-sided tear pad are helpful tools to spread the word. Educate your players on the new Lucky for Life lotto game by emphasizing the two win for life prizes: the $1,000 a day for life grand prize and the $25,000 a year for life second prize. Don’t forget to let players know that there are eight other ways to win on each ticket with prizes ranging from $4 to $5,000. Last but certainly not least—ask for the sale! Actually it seems to be pretty busy all the time. I’m sure you will all be glad to know that we have reviewed the proposals submitted for a new statewide gaming system, and are negotiating with the apparent winner. Next February (2016), you will have new equipment in your stores. While the present equipment was state of the art when installed in 2002, it’s getting kind of tired and worn by now. This is a complicated process that has taken a lot of staff time, and will continue to do so through the next year. We also have been busy with, and disappointed in, the MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES’ CLUB™ lottery game. The game just didn’t sell as well as expected, and was not covering the cost of prizes. The states are going to try to revamp the game in a simpler format and hope to have another version out in the spring. We have heard a number of reasons for the failure, but the two most cited are too complicated and the $5 price point. If you have any thoughts you would like to pass on, please do. Another game is coming this month called Lucky for Life. This game has been very popular in the New England lotteries and is now going national. You can read all about the game in this edition. I hope you have enjoyed good sales with Moose 81 . I have really had fun working with and getting to know Carl Eller. We hope that we have developed additional interest in his card game of the same name. You can see it on his website at Moose81.com. ™ It seems that winter is upon us and the holidays are past. I hope that all of you had a joyful and safe holiday season and that business is good. Our scratch game sales have been good, and we know that it is because of you. We sincerely appreciate all that you do for the Minnesota Lottery. Thank you. Keewatin Sinclair “We’re the only store in Keewatin and it’s right on the main street. We carry r e Retail groceries and we have a t h ig tl o p S deli. We have a bit more than a regular convenience store,” said Keewatin Sinclair owner Dan Kelly. “I’ve had the business 15 years — it does very well. We have a taconite mine in town that draws a lot of people through town so that’s a big help.” Lottery sales rep Dan Schiltz said that Kelly is an outstanding lottery retailer for several reasons: “He really pays attention to buyers’ purchasing trends, he has an on-counter dispenser, he reads everything that the Lottery sends him, he runs three to four promotions a year, has an environmental lottery sign that covers his cigarette rack and has a double-decker winner awareness board.” Schiltz added, “He welcomes the 5.5 percent commission!” “I know a lot of retailers don’t want to put the [on-counter dispenser] on the counter. When you figure out the profits on the Lottery, there’s probably nothing else that you would put up there that would make any more money. I don’t think people realize how much you do make on the Lottery in a year for how little work there really is,” said Kelly. Kelly said that he always runs promotions that Schiltz suggests. “People love either getting a free T-shirt or an extra lottery ticket and it just brings in more business,” he explained. 3 Kelly gives his gasoline customers a reward for filling up at his business. “I have these little cards and for every $50 worth of gas, customers get a free Powerball ticket. They can get other things like a bottle of window wash, $1 off gas, a free small pizza or a free movie rental, but the Powerball ticket is the most popular one.” ® Keewatin Sinclair has been a lucky spot for lottery players. “The biggest winner we’ve had was $200,000 on a ticket. A regular customer. He buys one ticket every day and won $200,000 so that was nice,” Kelly said. The store earned a $1,000 bonus for selling the $200,000 winning ticket, which Kelly said was “fantastic.” “We’ve had $25,000 winners and that’s even good. Even people who win $500 are pretty excited,” said Kelly. “I would be, too!” Dan Kelly, owner of Keewatin Sinclair.
