ADOPT A SCHOOL PROGRAM
ATTENTION AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLS: Principal; Classroom Teachers; HPE/SOSE Coordinator; Rugby Coaches
Connect with school from Papua New Guinea, Samoa, or Solomon Islands!
The Pacific in Union program is an initiative of Australian Rugby Union (ARU), International Rugby Board (iRB) and the
Australian Government aiming to promote values, healthy lifestyles, diversity, leadership and teamwork to school children
across the Pacific region through rugby union-themed classroom, field and festival activities.
The Adopt a School program invites Australian Primary and Secondary schools, regardless of their rugby union
experience, to connect with a school from Papua New Guinea, Samoa, or Solomon Islands and participate in one or
more of the following activities:

SHARED LEARNING
o One or more class groups communicating with adopted school about lifestyles, cultures, sport etc via
letters, email, telephone, skype and/or audio-tape;
o One or more teachers engaging in professional discussions/development on various education topics with
one or more teachers from adopted school.

DONATIONS and FUNDRAISING
o Donating second-hand resources e.g. rugby jerseys, sports uniforms, textbooks, and/or sport/rugby
playing equipment to adopted school;
o Fundraising to support adopted school purchase educational resources and/or build school infrastructure.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP
o Student leadership group staging a rugby festival at school and sharing ideas with the student leadership
group from adopted school who are also organising their own rugby festival.

EXCHANGES
o Students, teachers and/or sport/rugby teams participating in an exchange with students, teachers and/or
sport/rugby teams from adopted school.

OTHER
o Any other creative ways of connecting with adopted schools!
