To celebrate this occasion, we have several event planned throughout the year. One of the first steps is to order t-shirts for the students. The tshirts will be under $6. We are asking all students to purchase a t-shirt to be worn on special occasions. An information sheet will be sent home soon. Parents may also purchase the t-shirts STAR Testing All BPMS students will be taking the STAR test in math and reading during the month. Their teachers will utilize this data from the two tests to assess the progress or status of where the students are academically. The data will dictate what instructional strategies the teachers may need to revisit or improve. Parent Teacher Conferences – End of the 1st Quarter The 1st quarter ends Wednesday, October 15. Parent Teacher Conferences will be on Thursday October 23 from 9am8pm. If your child is in the 7/8th grade, we simply ask you to show up when it is convenient to see your child’s teacher during the one day the conferences take place. No appointment is necessary. If your child is in the 5/6th grade, appointments will be made through your child’s teachers. School Facebook page/web site/Parent Portal We encourage all parents that have a Facebook account to “LIKE” the Buffalo Prairie Middle School Facebook page. It is the page with a picture of a Bison. This is just one more way we plan to communicate with parents. Pictures and success stories are on the Facebook page along with the school’s website. The school’s website site is found at www.bisonpride.org We also encourage parents to sign up for the parent portal so they can get up to date information on your own child’s grades, attendance, discipline referrals, and other information. If you have lost your password, please call the office and ask for Cynthia. Also, be sure to check out the Community Resource button on the web site for opportunities and resources. Bullying Form There is a bullying form available for all students or parents to fill out to inform school officials of when your child is being bullied. The form is located on our website or in the information rack. Character Education The character Ed word of the month is Accountable. We won’t have character assemblies this year, but will still practice character ed in the classrooms. Student of the month will be based off the character words. Red Ribbon Week – Themes – October 27-30 Monday – “Moustache you say no to drugs”- kids wear mustaches Tuesday – “Cowboy against drugs” – Kids dress like a cowboy Wednesday – “Born to be Drug free” – guess faculty member baby pictures Thursday – “Drugs will come back to haunt you.” – Door decorating contest Wyldlife The second Wyldlife meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 30 after school. All kids in each grade are invited to this fun after school activity that brings a lot of excitement to the kids. No School School will not be in session on the dates of October 24 and October 31. October Assemblies We plan to have three assemblies in October. October 17 is about bullying where the presenters tie in yo-yo’s. Students will have a chance to purchase yo-yo’s after the assembly. On October 21, we will have a man speak to us about cyber and internet safety and finally on October 27, an assembly on Risky Behavior will take place.
