Email templates
•
•
•
•
Emails can be found and created under the Assets > Emails tabs
As all asset, it is organised by regional folders
Naming convention has to be applied to find them quicker and keep a clean environment
You can find the templates by clicking Create an email > All files (left side bar) > Global templates
X
If you are creating your email without
any existing template, make sure you
select “Blank HTML email”. Using
“Blank Email” is not an optimum
solution.
Email Settings
Headers and Footers: Additional headers and
footers can be created in the component library
Subject line
From email address: make sure you have the
domain matches the bounceback domain.
Reply to email address: The email address to be
used when contacts REPLY to an email
Make sure the “Enable Email tracking” is ticked
and the “Send as plain-text only” in Unticked
Click Done and Save the email
Other email options and functionalities
•
Operational Reports vs
Insights reports (will be
covered in the reporting
session in more depth)
•
Manage link: allows you see
which links are tracked within
the email
•
Test Content vs Email a
contact
•
Preview: Allows to preview for
a specific contact how the
email looks like on desktop,
mobile and tablet
Email components
For each components a pop-up windows open where you can view your
specific components and settings.
NOTE: we recommend you create your components before creating your
email.
•
Images: Make sure the image has the right dimensions for the template.
You can then drag and drop it
•
Field merge: This gives you the ability to personalise your emails and use
contact data points within emails E.g. “Dear [FIRST NAME]”
•
Shared Content: This is content that can be re-used in multiple emails. If
the master content is updated, it will be updated in all emails where it is
used.
•
Dynamic content: Based on rules, it displays different content for different
contacts. E.g Modern Mark banner in the email you receive for this training
changes depending on your region.
•
Cloud Content: This allows us to integrate with external data sources.
Tools box component
The tools box is the same as landing pages
tools box – it allows you to manage hyperlinks
and formatting.
•
Landing page: Refers to an Eloqua Landing
page
•
Webpage: Any other external links
•
File in File storage: Any document you have
saved in the Eloqua components library and
you want to link it to (PDF, PPT…)
•
System action: Implies pre-configured
system actions. One of the best example is
the unsubscribe link you must have at the
bottom of each of your email. Eloqua takes
care of managing this.
Best practices
• Keep it short both for subject line and for email content/length
• Do not include big image files or attachments
• Make the links obvious that need to be clicked
• The more personalised, the better and more efficient: use field merge, dynamic content,
shared content…
• Ensure settings are correct, a big cause of bounce backs are incorrect settings
Components
Images
•
•
•
Images can be found and stored under the Assets > Components > Images
As with all assets, it is organised in a folder structure
Naming convention should to be applied to find them quicker and keep a
clean environment for others
•
The dimensions of images can be views in the folder structure without
having to open the image
•
Click the upload button on the top right corner from the folder view to
upload new images
•
Do not upload large file size images, this will impact your bounce rates
•
When double clicking on a specific image, details are provided for
this image such as the full image URL, Thumbnail URL,
dimensions, asset dependencies, creator of the image and when it
has been uploaded
•
From a specific image view you can manage the permissions,
download it, rename it or update the image with a new version
Dynamic Content
•
Dynamic content can be found and created under the Assets > Components
> Dynamic Content
•
Naming convention should be applied to find them quicker and keep a clean
environment for others
•
Dynamic content can display a variety of content based on rules: Do not
forget to set up a default rule
•
Criteria for the rule can include comparing contact fields or account fields,
linked contact in custom object or linked record in event
•
The content itself can include text, fields merge, images and/or links
•
Example of dynamic content: the Modern Mark banner you receive across
this Eloqua training campaign is based on your region
Shared content
•
•
Shared content can be found and created under the Assets > Components > Shared Content
Naming convention should be applied to find them quicker and keep a clean environment for others
•
Dynamic content is used when you need to re-use a same block of content across multiple emails
•
The content itself can include text, fields merge, images and/or links
•
Example of dynamic content: The “your progress” status boxes located in the Eloqua training emails you recieve
