President
President Sashagay Watt
Regarding last week’s conversation about SPB charging for the concert. Having speaking with
someone who is looked up to and trusted, who sees why it should be free, a recommendation was
proposed. President Sashagay Watt recommends to the financial committee to take the funds
from the SPB budget and creates a line item for the spring concert. Usually the concert cost
about $22,000, maybe bringing the price up to $30,000 for a better artist. Outsiders should have
to pay for the event. Students should not. SPB is going to explain why it cannot be free for this
semester. President Sashagay Watt believes that student have already paid for it by paying the
activities fee. That goes for all events. It may not be a struggle for you, but maybe for someone
else paying to attended the concert.
President Sashagay Watt asked the question to the Senate as to how many of them agree with her
recommendation: 16 clubs agreed, 1 disagreed, the remainder abstained.
President Sashagay Watt asked the question to the senate how many clubs charge for events?
Treasurer Monica Randazzo spoke for Mu Iota Upsilon saying that they charge for some events,
but the money goes toward their philanthropy. Many other Greek Organizations often charge for
their philanthropy.
Step It Up asked the question if we receive an allocation for an event can we charge? Treasurer
Monica Randazzo answered by telling them the money that is raised while being charged must
go back towards the Student Senate.
Step It Up asked the question if were not charging for events, then we should not have to pay for
events such as the late-night event that happened this past weekend. President Sashagay Watt
abstained from answering the question.

Open Discussion
Secretary Antori Abraham: Happy Birthday to Vice President Francisco Wilson-King
Vice President Francisco Wilson-King: Do you notice how clean Farrell Hall always is?
Whether it is for an event,or an accepted student’s day, or just on an everyday basis. Farrell Hall
custodial staff are the ones in charge making sure Farrell Hall is clean. Vice President Francisco
Wilson-King would like to ask for an allocation for no more than $100 for Easter baskets
towards the Farrell Hall custodial staff.
All in favor: all clubs.
Opposed: none
Abstentions: none
Allocation passed
Bronco’s Fynest: Bronco’s Fynest wants to discuss the Delhi at Night, Late Night Event. She
spoke with some other students about how the felt about it. One person said that they didn’t have
fun at all. This event was unsuccessful. If we made a resolution to not have any more events like
this for the academic year, why did this event happen anyway? Advisor Larry Mannolini adds
that he has talked in the past about the Late-Night Events Committee which consists of staff and
students talking about these types of events. They’ve made suggestions for some point in the
future to talked about the concept of another event similar. What would have to happen is we
would need to be prepared for any and all situations. The Late-Night Events Committee made a
set of recommendations to minimize the chances of any issues happening. Those included such
things as no guests, timing, more staffing, these were just some recommendations for more
safety. They presented the recommendation to the College’s leadership team, and were given the
green light to go ahead and place a pilot event to test the recommendations. The event was
supported by the student senate, student activities office, and RHA. Everyone is certainly entitled
to have an opinion. With the security and safety that was in place, there were no issues. But there
are no plans for any more events like this to happen for the remainder of the academic year, as it
was more expensive than in the past. Step It Up adds that a lot of people didn’t read the full
recommendation that was voted upon, more people should also think about those people who
aren’t involved in clubs or Student Senate and how this decision affected them. Sasha ends the
discussion of the Delhi at Night by added that the resolution was read to the full Senate, and
passed out to each member. These executive board positions are not easy, we try to ask everyone
for their opinion and represent it accordingly. Finally, if we had to vote today, knowing that the
Jam, or late-night events would be cancelled for both fall and spring, how many would vote to
keep them cancelled. To cancel the event: 20; to keep the late-night events: 2; Abstentions: 7.
Treasurer Monica Randazzo: Treasurer Monica Randazzo states that sometimes University
police stops people for no cause. Herself, and about 20 others that she knows claimed to have
been stopped by University Police. Especially this past weekend. Also on other nights there are
some officers who disrespect students as well as faculty. Vice President Francisco Wilson-King
added that this past weekend, he was pulled over three times. He felt antagonized as an offcampus student. President Sashagay Watt adds that the police need to be mindful. Having an
event with 15+ officers is intimidating. Some of them not even being University police. All
events should be treated equally and fair. If not, it looks as though they are targeting specific
groups of people. At SUNY Delhi, we should all be equal. Why should a late-night event have
such strict and intimidating protocol? Why was Lanfest, or any other event not treated with the
same measures of security. Computer Club makes a comment about Lanfest, and other events not
having the same problems that the last Jam did. BIG comments that more police officers are
usually around when there are events that are known to cause more problems. If there’s an event
that has been known to have problems, then there should be more money put towards that event
to be spent on the officers or any other acts of safety. President Sashagay Watt adds that the
recommendations by the Late-Night Events Committee states that all events that go after
building hours should have the same protocol. College players adds that just because something
hasn’t happened yet, doesn’t meant that it’s not going to. You must make sure to be ready for all
possible situations beyond the event. Anything can happen. Advisor Larry Mannolini III adds
that the paperwork that is filled out for every event is also relayed to other types of offices on
campus. This includes University Police. They are aware of the event and regularly communicate
what is needed based on size and scoop of the event. It’s part of the reason the paperwork is
filled out. Horticulture Club state that it should be all or nothing. It shouldn’t just be some events
with lots of security and some with minimum. Every student should feel safe. There should be
one or two more officers added, not all extra equipment is needed because of the cost. Students
would be more comfortable. President Sashagay Watt ends the discussion regarding police
targeting by saying that no student should feel uncomfortable, or targeted on this campus at all.
The feeling is not worth any amount of money.
