20-GVP-Explanation

SOCEC Group Video Project
In groups, you will prepare and present a skit to be video recorded. For
this skit, you will:
1) Have and develop a storyline.
2) Assign characters to all group members.
3) Utilize information learned this year (from the textbook, from the
handouts used in the first semester, etc.).
4) Do some research about a company and present that information
somehow in the skit.
5) Share the work evenly among your group members.
You must not:
1) Let your group members do all the work.
2) Be absent on the day of video recording.
3) “Finish” your skit in 30 seconds…
Grades will be assigned to students in this manner: a group grade, a student
assessment grade (a grade given by you and your groupmates), and a written
description grade. You will NOT be graded on your acting abilities.
However, you must show that you have prepared sufficiently and practiced
your video presentation with your group members.
Group Grade:
(a) all members have a part (roughly equal)?
(b) include information learned this year?
(c) evidence of practice?
(d) evidence of having done research?
(e) evidence of working as a group?
(f) an opening sign for the skit?
(g) a handout for your classmates?

You are encouraged to make the skits interesting (and even funny!). Use
your imagination. There are no rules about what must be in the skits
(within reason). Additionally, it might be worth considering having “acts”
in your skit so that you can cover different areas (i.e., different chapters from
the book).
The recording of the skits will be done in the regular classroom during class
time. There must be 4 groups. How you make the groups is up to you
(i.e., how many students in each group, balance of males/females, etc.).
Each group will have about 45 minutes total for recording their skits – 2
groups on two separate days. If you are not scheduled to record on a
certain day, you do not have to come to class that day. However, recording
times must be adhered to, so do not be late to class and be sure to finish your
skit on time!
When the videos are shown to your classmates in a later class, groups must
provide handouts to their classmates. These handouts will:
(a) List group members and group name
(b) Give the background story/plot of the skit
(c) Present specific information from the skit you want your
classmates to know (i.e., information you researched)
(d) Difficult/important vocabulary from the skit (for the
benefit of your classmates)
(e) List any other information deemed important
Each group will discuss the handout prior to viewing the skit.
When your classmates watch your group’s skit, they will be required to fill
out a sheet describing what they saw. This means each skit will be watched
twice. The first viewing is for enjoyment. After the first viewing,
students will get into their groups and discuss what they saw. The second
viewing will be meant for information gathering purposes. Each student
will then individually describe in writing the events and information
presented in the skit. Students will turn in their sheets at the end of class
for additional grades (8 points per description).
NOTE: You do not have to video record your skit in order. However: please
provide a copy of your skit to your teacher so that the videos can be edited
in the correct sequence. Thank you!!!
