Press Release 24/5/16 The North West Film Archive at Manchester Metropolitan University is pleased to announce ‘Pendle on Film’, a part of its programme to make this fascinating collection available to the public of the North West region. The NWFA will present a public screening of films from its collection at The Pendle Hippodrome Theatre Colne. The screening will take place on Wednesday 22nd of June 2016 at 7.30pm. The films to be shown will feature life in and around the area over the past 100 years. This specially selected compilation of fascinating films includes footage of the 1913 Royal Visit to Colne and of the town’s last tram in 1934. Traditional industries and customs are to the fore with films of one of the areas Knocker-Upper’s at work and of the Lancashire Pride of the Glen Mills cotton workers in 1950. We see the New Fields for Industry as the area looked forward to an exciting future in 1957 and how they celebrated the Burnley Borough Centenary in 1961. See historic colour views of the Busby Babes at Turf Moor in 1957. Look back at those Street Games we used to play and follow the events of One Day in August as captured by the cameras of the Burnley Cine club and finally we pay tribute to Wallace Hartley the Son of Colne who’s actions one night in 1912 made him posthumously famous.
