2017 AAYBA Texas World Series Home Run Derby Information, Logistics and Rules REGISTRATION DEADLINE: @ 11:59 PM • Week 1 – Registration CLOSES Friday, June 16, 2017 • Week 2 – Registration CLOSES Friday, June 30, 2017 REGISTRATION: • Only ONE PLAYER and ONE COACH per team is eligible to participate in the Home Run Derby. • If for any reason multiple players or coaches from the same team register, it will be the HEAD coach’s responsibility to determine which of the players or coaches will participate. • Please bring your confirmation email to the fields in case of discrepancies. • Any player or coach not on the “registered” list will need proof of registration. • NO walk-up entries permitted. • Coaches HRD will be limited to the first 40 Coaches that register. • Coaches may choose to participate in the HRD or Fungoman events, BUT a single coach is NOT eligible to compete in both events. LOCATION: BAKERSFIELD PARK, FLOWER MOUND, TX • Field #3 (ages 7U – 10U) ➢ Participants must “check-in” within 30 minutes (before or after) the scheduled start time posted for each age group below, failing to checkin eliminates participant from the HRD. ➢ Please “check-in” at the Home Run Derby Tent on the 1B side of Field #3. ➢ Only Players and Pitchers/Catchers are allowed in the warm-up area and on the field. • Field #7 (ages 11U – 14U and Coaches) ➢ Participants must “check-in” within 30 minutes (before or after) the scheduled start time posted for each age group below, failing to checkin eliminates participant from the HRD. ➢ Please “check-in” at the Home Run Derby Tent on the 3B side of Field #7. ➢ Only Players and Pitchers/Catchers are allowed in the warm-up area and on the field. DATES: • Saturday, June 24th, 2017 for “odd” age groups • Saturday, July 8th, 2017 for “even” age groups Times for June 24th (“odd” age group): • 7U: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM • 9U: 10:30 PM – 12:30 PM • 11U: 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM • 13U: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM • Coaches: 2:45 PM – 3:45 PM 2017 HRD Page 1 2017 AAYBA Texas World Series Home Run Derby Information, Logistics and Rules Times for July 8th (“even” age group): • 8U: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM • 10U: 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM • 12U: 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM • 14U: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM • Coaches: 2:45 PM – 3:45 PM ***While we will be working hard to stay on schedule, there is a chance for delays depending on the number of registered participants and weather*** RULES: • Participants MUST provide their own Adult (18 years of age or older) Pitcher for the Home Run Derby. • We will have a designated “warm-up” area for participants/pitchers only. • Catchers are optional and must be provided by the participant. If a catcher is used, they must be in full catcher’s gear. An “L-Screen” will be provided for the Home Run Derby Competition (mandatory for 9U and above). • Only the “registered” participant, the pitcher, and the catcher can go past the check in tables to the warm-up areas or batting cages and on the field. • ONLY ONE PLAYER or COACH from each team will be allowed to compete in the HRD. ➢ Please orchestrate this with your team prior to registration for this event, note: Many teams have shared the following idea on how to pick a single player to participate --- hold your own “Home Run Derby” to determine who will represent your team at the AAYBA Texas World Series. • Coaches HRD will be limited to the first 40 Coaches that register. • Coaches may choose to participate in the HRD or Fungoman events, BUT a single coach is NOT eligible to compete in both events. • Competition/Hitting order will be determined by order in which you arrive to “check-in” for your age group. (Reminder, you must check-in within a 30minute window of the scheduled start time of your age group.) Round 1: • No warm-up swings once on the field; all warm-up swings will take place in the designated warm-up area; all swings on the field will count towards either Home Runs or Outs. • Each contestant will have 5 outs to hit as many home runs as possible. • Any swing that isn’t a home run (in fair territory) is considered an out. • Top three home run hitters in each division advance to Championship 2017 HRD Page 2 2017 AAYBA Texas World Series Home Run Derby Information, Logistics and Rules • Round. Ties will be handled per the Tie Breaker rules below. Championship Rounds: • The top three home run hitters from each division in Round 1 will have a 3out playoff to determine the Champion. • Each contestant will have 3 outs to hit as many home runs as possible. • Any swing that isn’t a home run (in fair territory) is considered an out. • Ties will be handled per the Tie Breaker rules below. Tie Breakers: • If there is a tie during Round 1 or the Championship Round we will have a 5 Swing Playoff to determine who advances or who is crowned Champion • First player to hit a home run (in his sequence of swings) advances to the Championship Round or is crowned the Champion. ➢ Example: In a three-way tie --- Player One hits a HR on swing #3. Player Two hits a HR on swing #2. Player Three doesn’t hit a home run by swing #3. Player Two advances. ➢ Example: If two or more players in the tie-breaker all hit a HR on swing #2, then we advance to another tie-breaker. • If no player hits a home run in 5 swings, the longest ball (in air flight) will determine the winner. AWARDS: The Champion at each age group will be presented a new (DeMarini or D-BAT Custom bat) and a new pair of Oakley sunglasses during the opening ceremony. MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN. I understand that activities sponsored by D-BAT Lewisville may be physically strenuous and I voluntarily participate in them with full knowledge that there is risk of personal injury, property loss or death. I agree that neither myself, my heirs, assigns or legal representatives will sue or make any other claims of any kind whatsoever against D-BAT Lewisville, their contractors, or its members for any personal injury, property damage/loss, or wrongful death, whether caused by negligence or otherwise. 2017 HRD Page 3
