New classes begin
September 7!
Do you want to learn to play a
string instrument? Do you already play
an instrument, but want more
instruction than is available in your
school? Are you an experienced
elementary school aged player, looking
for an orchestra with which to play? This
program is designed for you! Taught by
dynamic and experienced instructors,
the Stivers String Academy opens its
doors every Tuesday.
Beginning and intermediate level
classes are offered for students in
grades 4 – 8. The cost to enroll in each
class is only $10 per term for Dayton
Public School students and $25 per term
for students from other school districts.
Lesson books and music will be
provided to every student at no
additional charge. Instruments may be
rented from the school for only $30.00.
The fall term is from September through
November and the spring term is from
January through April. A performance is
presented at the end of each term.
The Dayton Community
Orchestra is designed for students with
playing experience who want to learn
how to be a member of a large
ensemble. Two to three performances
are scheduled throughout the school
year.

Instructors
Lois Clark Ramey is the string specialist
at Stivers School for the Arts and a
National Board Certified Teacher. She is
a frequent guest clinician at area
orchestra festivals, an adjudicator for
the Ohio Music Education Association,
and a gifted intervention specialist. Mrs.
Ramey has led many orchestras, small
ensembles, and soloists to superior
ratings at music festivals and
competitions.
