A. COMPARTMENT INSPECTION
1. Compartment Check-Off Lists (CCOL)
a. Are all CCOL’s posted at each entrance to the
compartment?
b. Does the compartment number on the CCOL match
the number on the compartment “Bullseye”?
c. Are all items on the CCOL in sequential numerical
order?
d. Are all classified DC fittings numbered with a 3-part
number? (deck, frame, in relation to centerline)
e. Are DC fittings listed in the proper group, in the
correct order and not abbreviated?
f. Are divisions assigned to each X, CX, Y, CY, W and
repair lockers assigned to CW, Z, CZ, and DZ fittings?
g. Check each item listed on the CCOL against each
fitting in the compartment by removing the CCOL from
it’s holder and starting with number 1, go fitting by fitting
ensuring the DC fitting number and classification match
exactly.

a. Are all numbers on classified fittings clear and
legible? (not painted over, not taped over, not 50%
faded)
b. Are all classification markings of proper color? (X, Y,
W, Circle W, Dog Z, Circle X are black, Z is red)

c. Are label plates correct? (Number of the fitting, noun
name of the compartment you are entering and
compartment number)
d. Piping and ventilation piping passing through
watertight or air tight bulkheads permanently welded to
bulkhead?
e. Fitting classification, numbering, color-coding,
labeling, flow direction labeling, and required test caps in
place and legible as to their purpose and function?
3. Fitting Operability
a. Do all fittings operate? (Hand wheels not missing)
b. Are wrenches for deck drains, hatches overboard
discharges, and individual dog WTD’s in place and if the
correct size? (at least within 10 feet from the fitting )
c. Are fittings found OOC or out of adjustment properly
entered in the OOC list of the DC closure log?

d. Are the fittings, which are required to be closed for
the material condition, set on the ship?

f. Do the equipment foundations and supports show
signs of damage or deterioration?
g. Are all safety precautions, warning signs and
operating instructions and first aid instructions posted?

h. Are safety nets installed in trunks.
i. Do the emergency power cables show signs of
deterioration or damage, and are they present or
missing?
j. Is the ship maintaining EGL’s with all spaces listed?
k. Are there any dead-end cables in the space? (Note:
ensure safety precautions in NSTM 300 are followed
when inspecting dead end cables and wire ways.)

a. Is the lagging/insulation free from moisture, stains, or
mineral deposits?
5. Verify Installation of Medical and Damage
Control Equipment

equipment is clearly marked, accessible and PMS
current. (Battle Lanterns, Stretchers, Portable Fire
Bottles, Shoring, First Aid Kits, Fire Hoses, Casualty
Power Cables, Sound Powered Phones and Phone

6. Photo Luminescent Markings

a. Bullseyes placed and affixed on vertical surfaces in
which they can be readily identified from any entrance
into the space?
b. Exit, DECON Station, Medical markings readable,
affixed properly and in the correct locations?
c. Ladder, Escape Trunks, WTDs, Hatches, Escape
Hatches clearly marked and outlined in photoluminescent tape or paint?
