Introduction
The Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) Technology Developer Accelerator Programme
(TDAP) is part of the SME & Supply Chain programme, aimed at supporting Small and
Medium sized Technology Developers (TDs). The objective is to provide TDs expert support
to identify routes to market, accelerating technology development cycles and prepare them to
be commercially viable in a shortened time scale.
APC will utilise several skills-based delivery partner for the programme, who will utilise
elements of the Core Technology Development phases of an automotive New Products
Introduction (NPI) Programme.
The Technology Developer Accelerator Programme will take TDs through a five-stage
process that will prepare the TD for engagement in automotive OEM and Tier 1 development
programmes, including those funded by APC and Innovate UK, or to attract further equity
investment opportunities as appropriate.
Successful applications will be provided with technical and industry specialist support to guide
through the process. Upon completion of all stages it is expected that the product or service
reaches Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) 5 and a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6
(depending on the technology’s respective entry levels).

Programme Phases
The programme is structured to provide business and technical support to ensure effective
and relevant progress is achieved through the following phases:
PHASE
MENTORING SUPPORT
PHASE 1: On – Boarding and Organisational Assessment
Your application will be reviewed by an expert panel and if successful will be short
listed for Phase 2.
Gateway to Phase 2
PHASE2: CONCEPT STUDY
This phase will be to fully understand the
technology and innovation that is being
developed and assess its viability including;
market review, establishing the value
proposition and IP landscape.
Up to
Maximum 25 days of specialist support
from delivery partners.
Plus up to £8,750 grant representing
approx. 70% of TD matched labour costs.

Phase 3: BUSINESS PLANNING
This phase will set out the future business
plan, including potential customers,
competitors and applications for ease of
market entry. Potential supply chain
opportunities are also investigated.
Gateway to Phase 4
Phase 4: CHARACTERISATION
This phase will provide technical and
manufacturing readiness development,
introduction of Automotive standards,
customer requirements and introductions, in
preparation for validation and product testing.
Gateway to Phase 5
STAGE 5: APPLICATION
This phase will provide further Technical and
Manufacturing readiness development with
validation and product testing (as
appropriate).
Up to
Maximum 45 days of specialist support
from delivery partner.
Plus up to £11,200 grant representing
approx.70% of TD matched labour costs.
Up to
Maximum 165 days of specialist support
from delivery partner.
Plus up to £75,000 grant representing
approx. 60% of TD matched labour costs.
Funding will be reviewed through the
previous Phases and discussed with
individual participants as to the most
appropriate options to suit the ongoing development.

As the programme is grant funded we will need to understand the innovation and technology
that you are looking to develop. Respecting your intellectual property we will, as part of the
contractual start-up phase for successful applicants, provide a Confidentiality Agreement that
will be signed by all parties. We will also need to undertake financial and commercial duediligence, which will be carried out as part of the next stage of your application.

The Opportunity
The APC TDA programme provides funding and independent expert support to help
Technology Developers to: Assess the technical, manufacturing and commercial readiness of your
technology and business against industry bench marks
 Plan the commercialisation, market entry, routes to production and funding
opportunities
 Manage your way through automotive standards and processes for new product
introduction
 Engage with advanced engineering and programme teams of UK, European and
global OEMs and Tier #1s
 Identify viable and supportive supply chain partners
 Offer independent funding that will support your own investment levels
What is the Technology Developer Accelerator Programme & timing?
If selected each full TDAP wave is an 18 months programme operated by the Advanced
Propulsion Centre, supported by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy.

The full programme consists of 3 separate Waves, with Wave #1 commencing in Feb 2017

Respect your ideas and innovation and ensure that your IP and commercial
proposition are not compromised.
Work with you to determine potential market sectors, early customers and
income.
Work with you to determine target product costs, potential manufacturing and
product validation routes.
Use our network and offer marketing support to ensure credibility and visibility of
promising technologies.
Signpost potential sources of funding for your core technology development
activities.
The programme permits matched funding to be provided through the APC and
the expert support from the delivery partners.

What you will need to provide?
You will;






Ensure IP is formally protected and that to your knowledge IP of others has not
been encroached.
Undertake a commitment to complete all stages of the programme and provide
the resource and capability to support the match funding requirements.
Work with members of APC and our delivery partners to share all information and
be honest about knowledge gaps in order that they can be addressed by the
team.
Treat APC and the Delivery Partners as equal team members.
Be direct and open with us.
State Aid regulations mandate that payment to Delivery Partners must be by the
TD and then appropriate level reclaimed through the APC claims process.
