A short statement from a number of players and parents
best described last weekend: “Well mate, that was good.”
Our organisation reflected our performance with over 110
coaches / managers / volunteers assisting our large sports
program. It is unfortunate that not all players gained
selection nor gained selection in the team they desired these situations are not taken lightly but we face
constraints that limit what can be achieved.
AIC sport was played at varied levels of ability, coaching
and enjoyment. It was led by our 1st volleyball and cricket
teams, swim captains and sailing parents. Yr 5 / 6 AFL
joined a competition that AFL QLD efficiently organised,
including financial assistance, social media coverage,
facilities, sports medicine and referees—it is “good” and
will become “really good” for Iona College.
All parents and players are reminded that hydration and
individual protection against the sun is the responsibility of
the parent and player during weekend sport. Water
bottles, hats and sunscreen use needs to become player
routine prior to and during each game.

Start Sailing 2 has been hugely popular and is now fully

Last Friday
evening, the Iona
squad competed
against St Peters,
St Laurence’s and
St Patrick’s. It was
evident that rivals
St Peters and St
Laurence’s are
strong in the
older year levels
while Iona’s
strength lies with our younger squad members. The simple
deduction is that our 14yrs through to open swimmers
need to train hard over the coming weeks to ensure that
Iona remains top 3 in AIC competition. An encouraging
feature of our efforts last week was relays—they are
crucial to success as a team and we will continue to focus
on that aspect of performance.
Reminders
 Lytton District swim nominations for 10 –12 Years (Mr
Pritchard) and Met East Regional nominations for 13 Open Years (Mr Harron) have been taken. Swimmers will
be provided further details if selected to compete based
on a ceiling of nominations able to be submitted and
times submitted.
 Swim fees need to be paid for those swimmers who train
at Iona.
Friday 10th Feb “Head to Head” vs Villanova College
All swimmers in the Year 5 – Open squad must attend the
meet at Iona this Friday against Villanova. Swimmers are to
wear Iona warm up shirt / black togs. Iona caps must be
worn if you want to swim in a cap. Dress for success.
