Round One
Welcome back for round one. Two from four to start the
season. Moshy firing in Second grade’s thrashing of
Heidelberg, and Billy going well in The Dream Team’s
narrow loss to Greensborough. Good to see a few blokes get
amongst the runs (Hartnett, Wallwork, Brown) in the other
losses.
This week is the first two day game of the season. So lets
concentrate on batting out our overs and doing the smart
things in the field.
Lets build on the positives from round one, and have four
from four this round!

Club Shirts
Quote of the Week
No real change to prices of clothing this year. Remember, that
all senior members will receive a white one day shirt as a part
of their membership package.
When hitting catches at training, a ball flies past
Cheesey at catchable height, Alex Mullhollond:
“Cheeseyyyy...like you were stuck to the hot plate!”
White one day shirt $35
Blue club shirt $35
Baseball Caps $10
Traditional Cricket Caps $30
-Some of the great man’s finest work. No doubt Mull
will feature prominently in this segment throughout the
year.
Player Sponsorship
Separated at Birth?
Player sponsorship forms an integral part of the ability for the
club to provide such fantastic facilities and keep membership
as such a low level. It is imperative every player makes the
effort to get a player sponsor this season. This will also see
you get a discount on your membership!
Please see Daniel Barnes for the particular information about
player sponsorship.
If any past players would like to sponsor a player at the club
or form a syndicate, it is a great way to stay involved in the
club, please also contact Daniel.
Mr. Ed
Membership
Welcome back to another season at the BCC. I am pleased to
announced the committee has decided not to change the
membership prices for this season however their is a slight
change to the cost structure, the table below shows what each
member is due to pay. This year we have decided to include a
playing shirt in the membership package, we have added $25
for each member to cover the majority of this cost the rest will
be paid for by the club. These match shirts are compulsory for
all grades to ensure that we give adequate coverage to our
major sponsors. We will be wearing the one shirt for all
grades and games this season so you will not need to purchase
two separate shirts.
The majority of the clubs costs come through in the first
half of the season so we urge all players to ensure they pay
their membership as early as possible, to encourage this we
have again included the penalty system at set dates. If you
envisage that you will have trouble paying your membership
in time please speak to me and we can arrange something.
Good luck to everyone this season, let's hope we have an
enjoyable year both on and off the field.

The Dream Team.
A bit cold early but Philo wore the shorts nonetheless and the
sun soon appeared. Young Josh De Stefanis pulled out and
replaced by equally young Geoff Place, average age
skyrocketing, then Moshie taken up to the two’s but we got
Micky Abrahams so some youth at last. Opposition watched
with amusement as Scooby, Fez, Veally, Billy, Philo & Pricey
struggled with the shade awning but Renna and Jed came to
our rescue (thanks teachers). We had a bat and captain
courageous and Pricey set off with Pricey soon back enjoying
some shade. Butts happily passed the money target of 10 and
even played a paddle around leg (its not a pull shot Butts!)
before getting bowled for 22. Billy smacked a few lusty shots
making quick 25 with Scooby scratching around at the other
end. Fez came and went for 8 ($5) and Abrahams also not a lot
for 6. Philo got a big head after a beautiful off drive and then
bowled for 4 ($5) before the partnership of the game between
Veally and Scooby put on 50. Scooby eventually out tired for
great 38 whilst the big guy hurt his arm so played some one
handed shots but managed 21no and we got 8/150. Jed run out
(again) for 3.
Borough sent all their kids in early and Fez with 2/34 and
Billy 4/19 ripped through them, Philo far too polite (another
$5). At 6/61 Yule’s enjoying the day but late partnerships saw
the green guys back in the game. Mulholland Drive came into
the attack and bowled magnificent line and length 1/34 to
break the major partnership. To Borough’s credit they batted
low and Scooby came on and bowled excellent spell 2/28 to
keep the game in the Yule’s grasp. Captain braniac mistook
the bowler’s allocations so Jed had to bowl last over with 13
needed to win. Suddenly we were nervous again but Jed with
all fielders on the fence showed a bit only going for 4 runs and
getting the last wicket of the day to win by 9 runs.
We blew some cobwebs out, collected some cash and promise
to be better with the sun shade in future. That high school
pitch is a beauty isn’t it!!

D GRADE

B Wallwork 40
Def by Viewbank 4/128
J Fraser 1/16
A Brown 43
With the off field lead up involving the following: Captain
Clapton unavailable due to a wedding, Ralph booking in for
pre game surgery, The Puppeteer told by the stand in Captain
to go fishing on Saturday, 9 players picked in the team, Adrian
Brown turning up unannounced on match day, James Fraser
sent to the wrong ground (The Captain forgot that he picked
him Thursday), Ralphy arguing with his wife about having to
play because 4th grade were short, James Fraser eventually
turning up and Beasty deciding not to ring Ralph, who arrived
in his whites to be told he is now 12th Man, it was a relief to
actually start the game.
Our pre game huddle began with Captain Araldite (bowled the
most over’s) extracting from his pocket the cheat notes
Graham had written to help him through the day!!!
With an introduction to our senior debutants in Jake Rice,
Steve Stancombe, Ray Paine and a welcome back to Brian
Wallwork we were batting first after Beasty won the toss.
Mark Pengilly and Brian opened the batting. Brian asked the
umpire (The Puppeteer) for middle stump and can’t have been
convinced with the answer so moved his bat and asked again,
after being given the same answer a perplexed Brian took face
to a bemused opening bowler!!! Mark (2) got a beauty which
saw him depart very early and this brought Browny (43) to the
crease. He and Brian (40) began to tear apart Viewbank’s
bowlers with some powerful stroke play. At 3 for 91 we were
well placed for a competitive score. However, Beasty (2)
holed out with a soda pop to mid on, the Puppeteer (13)
missed one and the rest of the team fell to some good bowling
and a bundle of nerves for 121.
We had an early tea (watermelon) then hit the ground full of
determination to get Viewbank out for less than 121. Beasty
and Lindsay Paine opened up the bowling and whilst bowling
well, didn’t get the early wickets we desired to put the
pressure back on the batsmen. The fielding was great and a
desire to save every run and chase the ball down was great to
see. An unfortunate knee injury to Ray Paine (father of
Lindsay) saw him carried off late in the day. Our 12th man
was nowhere to be seen???? Our debutants had a memorable
game with Steve having the impressive figures of 1 for 1 off 2
balls, Jake with a catch & some nice bowling and
unfortunately for Ray a date with the surgeon.
