Volunteer Second Hand Book Shop Assistant What does the role involve? The Second Hand Book Shop provides an opportunity for visitors to browse and buy books in a unique environment. Volunteer Second Hand Book Shop Assistants are a key part of that experience, giving a warm and friendly welcome to all. Working as part of a dedicated team of volunteers, you will accept and price donated books and display or store as appropriate. Provide excellent customer service, helping visitors find books of their choice and promoting the purpose of the shop. Accepting payments through a basic till operation and cashing up at the end of the day. Assisting with the evacuation of visitors in case of an emergency. Visitor Experience Manager Who do I report to? In the Second Hand Book Shop which is located in the Terrace Cottage within the grounds of Harewood House adjacent to the Adventure Playground. Where will I be located? A regular commitment to weekly, fortnightly or even monthly shifts of at least 6 hours would be appreciated. If you cannot commit to these hours, shorter hours can be discussed. What sort of commitment will I have to make? What are the shift times? We currently require volunteers who can offer a regular full day on a Saturday or can cover other days when our regular Volunteers are on holiday. 7 days per week during the season. Shift times generally are between 10:30am-4:30pm. You are asked to write the shifts you can do in a rota book on a regular basis. What do I need to know before starting? What training will I be given? No previous experience is needed but an interest in books and chatting to a wide variety of people would be beneficial. You will acquire knowledge over time through performing the role, talking to your colleagues and undertaking additional training sessions.
