What did you do when you were young? “Oh, well play.” Play what? “I used to play basketball, marbles, and used to get up on trees when I was in trouble.” How did you and Michael’s father meet? “We used to work together. I was an office clerk and he was a cashier, and then we had Michael.” (smiles) “Hmm, maybe the movies. We used to go to the Plaza Movies in downtown Laredo. Either we payed or we gave them bottles to get in.” “Because they used to refund them. You know where it said 5 cents or 10 cents, that’s how much they would refund them for.” “Well there was no, umm, computers, or boy games, or what is it called (demonstrating with her hands). No VCR’s and only some TV’s, of course black and white, we also didn’t have any chord less phones or cell phones.” “The Plaza Hotel, the Hamilton, and the Saints buildings.” “Well not that big, not like today anyways.” “They weren’t like today; they were dirt.” “Not that much, but they were standard. Not like today's automatic cars.” (showing me how they rode the standard) “Yes! We used to but candy and bottles of coke for 5 cents.” “More traffic, more people, more cars.” “I don’t like the designs of the schools. The only ones that look kind of the same since I was in them are Christen and Martin.” “Most would walk or take the bus.” “Lets see. I know it was a president; I’m not sure if it was Eisenhower or Nixon (squints). I think it was Nixon (giggles).
