Club Policies
•
Refer Club Website
•
Equal Playing Time
– The policy is seen as a critical plank in achieving our key objectives and is non-negotiable
– We need to select forwards and backs in the right numbers to help equal playing time
– Coaches need to plan substitutions and ensure equal time on field across a game or group of
games (max 3)
– Alternate players in the “run on” side
– Semi-finals and finals - Players must get meaningful game time in their rightful positions
– The communication to parents around players coming off is essential so they understand the
policy and why it is in place
– Common Sense Approach – It is NOT SuperRugby
•
Training & Game Day
– Priority should go to players with good attendance records
– Players who place higher priority on other sporting commitments should receive lower priority
If you don’t treat all kids fairly this year ………….they won’t be back next year!

Concussion Protocols
World Rugby and ARU Recognise and Remove message incorporates 6 Rs
Recognise
•Learn the signs and symptoms of a concussion so you understand when an athlete might have a suspected
concussion.
Remove
•If an athlete has a concussion or even a suspected concussion he or she must be removed from play immediately.
Refer
•Once removed from play, the player should be referred immediately to a qualified healthcare professional who is
trained in evaluating and treating concussions.
Rest
•Players must rest from exercise until symptom-free and then start a Graduated Return to Play. The recommendation is
for a more conservative return to play for children and adolescents.
Recover
•Full recovery from the concussion is required before return to play is authorised. This includes being symptom-free.
Rest and specific treatment options are critical for the health of the injured participant.
Return
•In order for safe return to play in Rugby, the athlete must be symptom-free and cleared in writing by a qualified
healthcare professional who is trained in evaluating and treating concussions. The athlete completes the GRTP
(Graduated Return to Play) protocol.
MANDATORY MINIMUM 2 WEEK EXCLUSION FOR JUNIOR PLAYERS WHO SUFFER CONCUSSION
