All Volunteers must be entered into MyRugby ARU Insurance policy covers registered volunteers for injury and liability Working with Children – mandatory for any Coach or Manager who is NOT a close relative of a player 12 Field Setup • All grounds are to be dressed in accordance with the Laws of the Game and the Competition Rules • Expectation of Behaviour signs must be visible at all times at every ground • Home Teams are to ensure that dangerous objects such as in-ground watering systems are filled in with sand or soil • Home Teams are to ensure ropes or barriers are erected a minimum of 5 metres back from the touch-line • Any complaint that there is a part of the ground which is not safe shall be determined by the Referee • Referees have the ability to Abandon the Match if they feel that the playing surface is not safe. 13 14 Club Policies • Refer Club Website • Equal Playing Time – The policy is seen as a critical plank in achieving our key objectives and is non-negotiable – We need to select forwards and backs in the right numbers to help equal playing time – Coaches need to plan substitutions and ensure equal time on field across a game or group of games (max 3) – Alternate players in the “run on” side – Semi-finals and finals - Players must get meaningful game time in their rightful positions – The communication to parents around players coming off is essential so they understand the policy and why it is in place – Common Sense Approach – It is NOT SuperRugby • Training & Game Day – Priority should go to players with good attendance records – Players who place higher priority on other sporting commitments should receive lower priority If you don’t treat all kids fairly this year ………….they won’t be back next year! 15 Club Policies • Refer Club Website • Registration Payments – Players will be ineligible to play if not registered by Round 1 • Awards – Juniors Only – George Smith (Best & Fairest) – 3,2,1 points to be awarded each week – Most Improved – Team Player Must notify Katrina by Monday, 22nd August after Round 15 to allow time for trophies to be engraved. 16 Injury Management • Australian Rugby Union Medical & Safety Recommendations Loaded on Website Copy located in Canteen Covers Spinal Injuries, Concussion, Fractures/Dislocations, Bleeding, Soft Tissue injuries, Teeth, MayDay call requirements/procedures • Suspected Spinal Injury • Call Ambulance Do Not Move The Player Do Not Apply Cervical Collar (unless specifically trained to do so) Follow Serious Injury Protocol – Serious Injury Hotline (1800 036 156) Concussion Guidelines – refer next slide A brain injury caused by either direct or indirect forces to the head Loss of consciousness is not a requirement for diagnosing concussion – less 15% of concussion cases result in loss of consciousness ARU recommends minimum rest periods 15yrs and under - 2 weeks. Over 16 – 1 week. • MayDay Call Covered by SmartRugby Ensure all teams are properly instructed and trained in correct procedures 17 Concussion Protocols World Rugby and ARU Recognise and Remove message incorporates 6 Rs Recognise •Learn the signs and symptoms of a concussion so you understand when an athlete might have a suspected concussion. Remove •If an athlete has a concussion or even a suspected concussion he or she must be removed from play immediately. Refer •Once removed from play, the player should be referred immediately to a qualified healthcare professional who is trained in evaluating and treating concussions. Rest •Players must rest from exercise until symptom-free and then start a Graduated Return to Play. The recommendation is for a more conservative return to play for children and adolescents. Recover •Full recovery from the concussion is required before return to play is authorised. This includes being symptom-free. Rest and specific treatment options are critical for the health of the injured participant. Return •In order for safe return to play in Rugby, the athlete must be symptom-free and cleared in writing by a qualified healthcare professional who is trained in evaluating and treating concussions. The athlete completes the GRTP (Graduated Return to Play) protocol. MANDATORY MINIMUM 2 WEEK EXCLUSION FOR JUNIOR PLAYERS WHO SUFFER CONCUSSION 18 Making an Insurance Claim What is a Serious Injury? How to Make a Claim “Any Head or Neck Injury that results in a player being treated at an emergency department, hospital or after hours medical centre 1. Obtain a Claim form from Gow-Gates or visit www.gowgatessport.com.au/rugby OR 2. “Any injury that results in the ADMISSION of a player into Hospital” Player is to fully complete form then pass back to club secretary 3. Club secretary to verify details 4.
