3M The Board Game itself can be printed at A3 or A4, depending on the size of your printer. To ensure it prints successfully make sure that you choose your paper size in advance and select ‘fit to printable area’ on your print menu. Rules 1. Each player should have their own counter (e.g. a distinctive or coloured coin), a piece of paper and a pen or pencil. 2. Copy as many of the attached Record Sheets as there are players. A group of four is recommended. 3. Players place their counter on the START square. Each player starts the game with 1000 Eco (you will see this has been entered in the Record Sheet) and every time a player passes the START square another 1000 Ecos are added to their bank balance. 4. Players take turns to roll a die moving their counter by the number of squares given on the die. 5. If a player lands on a square that requires them to pay out money, this should be recorded in the Money paid OUT column, along with the reason why money was paid out. Then amend the amount in the bank, in order to keep a running total. 6. If a player lands on a square that gives them a Reward for saving energy, this should be recorded in the Money paid IN column along with the reason why money was paid in. Again, amend the total in the bank. 7. Every time a player passes the Annual Energy Bill section, they must work out how much they need to pay. A player pays less if they have made one or more of the listed energy savings. All modifications made to a player's house should have been recorded in their Money paid OUT column. 8. Each time a player pays their Annual Energy Bill, they should work out how much money they currently have in the bank. In some cases this could be a negative number, but after a few times round the board, players should start seeing their money in the bank increase. 9. All players should check that a player has paid the correct amount for their Annual Energy Bill and that all calculations are correct. 10. When a player passes the START square, they should add 1000 Eco to their Money paid IN column. 11. The squares marked with a are only effective the first time a player lands on them. If the same player lands on the same square a second or third time, they will not need to pay out for a modification (because the modification is already made) or claim a reward (the reward has already been claimed). 12. The game is over once each player has completed their 4th Annual Energy Bill. Players then calculate how much money they have in the bank (and enter this in their Final Total). The winner at the end of the game is the player with the most money in the bank. Each player should look at the winner's columns to see how he/she managed to save so much money. * www.3Mfuturewise.ie Students aged 11 - 16 years 1 of 2 Record Sheet - Player’s name: List Modifications or Rewards Start Money paid IN (Eco) Money paid OUT (Eco) TOTAL in bank (Eco) 1000 Eco 1st Annual Energy Bill Total paid IN in Year 1 Total paid OUT in Year 1 Balance in bank List Modifications or Rewards Money paid IN (Eco) Money paid OUT (Eco) TOTAL in bank (Eco) 2nd Annual Energy Bill Total paid IN in Year 2 Total paid OUT in Year 2 List Modifications or Rewards Money paid IN (Eco) Money paid OUT (Eco) TOTAL in bank (Eco) 3rd Annual Energy Bill Total paid IN in Year 3 Total paid OUT in Year 3 List Modifications or Rewards Money paid IN (Eco) Money paid OUT (Eco) TOTAL in bank (Eco) 4th Annual Energy Bill Total paid IN in Year 4 Total paid OUT in Year 4 Balance in bank Balance in bank Balance in bank FINAL TOTAL IN BANK (Eco) www.3Mfuturewise.ie Students aged 11 - 16 years 2 of 2
