JOB OVERVIEW
To conduct advanced spatial analysis in support of decision-making on resource planning, land management or
other program issues.
REQUIRED

Conceptualizes designs, develops and executes advanced spatial analysis and presentation.

Prioritizes, coordinates and evaluates spatial analysis projects by consulting with resource or program
professionals, setting terms of reference, estimating time and costs, determining methodology,
specifying deliverables, and participating in strategic and operational planning.

Reviews progress of projects for consistency with project management plan, compliance with ministry
policy and standards, and prepares reports for clients.

Applies subject matter knowledge of scientific/technical areas in the design of specific spatial analysis
applications.

Provides advice to clients in the initiation, design, and specifications of projects, types of source data
required and available, data base structure, limitations and related specialized applications.

Performs integrated spatial analysis from multiple combinations of spatial and attribute data from a
diverse range of sources.

Develops spatial analysis procedures and techniques for customized applications, queries and models.

Designs and develops spatial analysis applications using programming languages and tools to create
custom program code.

Conducts quality control checks to ensure end-user product reliability and validity.

Develops spatial and attribute data bases required for spatial analysis processes.

Plans and coordinates the acquisition, processing and analysis of all data.

Develops new data sets based on queries and models against existing data bases using a combination
of spatial and relational data base management system tools.

Contributes to spatial technology standards and procedures to support integrity, security and
transferability of data and coordinating processes for quality assurance and archiving.

Applies corporate data models and creates custom data models for local data sets.

Establishes local protocols and methodologies for development and analysis of data sets.

Participates in the investigation, selection, testing and implementation of spatial analysis platform,
platform components and applications.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (SCREENING CRITERIA):

A Bachelor’s degree in a resource management related field, computer science or geography and two
years related experience or, a Technical Diploma in a resource management related field or computer
science and four years related experience.

Preference may be given to applicants with project management and recent experience (within the last
two years) using FLNRO datasets.
Related Experience includes:

Manipulating and integrating geographical and statistical data using multiple geographical information
systems, applications and relational database management systems;

Creating a variety of digital, geographical and descriptive products including themes, colour thematic
maps and associated descriptive statistics of client’s business needs;

Resource management issues and strategies in BC;

General theories, principles and standards of cartography such as offset lithography; mathematical
principles related to survey, layout and design principles etc.;

Mapping systems and processes such as BCGS, UTM, NTS, BC Albers, scale measurement, map
compilation, reproduction methods, photo and satellite interpretation;

GIS/Land Information Management operations including technology, equipment, systems, methods
and practices;

Multiple software programs and databases (ie. ESRI Products, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Oracle etc) and
their update/utility functions;

Government mapping information sources (ie. FTA clearance, BC Online, Tantalis (RAT), GATOR) and
products (Forest Atlas, Forest Cover Series, Lithographic Map Series, Surveyor General Reference
Maps, TRIM).
